Job Description
AECOM is seeking a Senior Structural Bridge Engineer (Railways) to be based in Mississauga, Ontario. In this role, the ideal candidate will act as a Structures Design Lead for pursuits and projects. The individual will have overall responsibility for all structural aspects of these projects, and inter-discipline coordination of all technical issues with other discipline leads from initial design through technical support during the construction phase. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead all elements of conceptual, preliminary and detailed final design of new bridges
  • Coordinate all structural engineering technical aspects of pursuits and projects with other disciplines and in support of the Project/Design Manager.
  • Ensure the structural design is completed in accordance with the contract guidelines and design documents.
  • Establish structural scope, work plan and work schedule in support of the Project Manager.
  • Comply with company’s safety awareness program and policies.
  • Manage groups of engineers, designers and/or specialists towards development of structural design documents and contract deliverables with minimal guidance or supervision.
  • Assure conformance with contractual obligations by ensuring that design documents are reviewed and approved prior to release to the client.
  • Train, mentor and develop staff and support career growth opportunities for staff.
  • Support marketing coordination and proposal preparation. Participate in proposal interviews.
  • Ensure that QA/QC procedures are being implemented and ensure the technical quality of deliverables. Lead responses to client’s comments on structural design elements of the deliverables.
  • Anticipate potential budget and schedule impacts and initiate plans for alternative actions.
  • Incorporate innovation in design and delivery.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering and (eight) 8+ years of relevant experience in transportation structures (railways) or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Professional Engineer license (P. Eng.) and be willing to obtain reciprocity in the jurisdiction of the projects.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ideally 10+ years of related design experience is preferred.
  • Experience with alternative delivery methods or projects with early contractor involvement
  • Previous and relevant experience working on ‘mega’ projects that exceed a billion dollars
  • Railroad bridge experience is helpful
  • Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering
  • Project experience with CN, Metrolinx and other Railway Clients
  • Railroad bridge experience is a plus
