Description:
This is an exciting opportunity to work within and alongside Student Services colleagues to shape a busy and growing service which makes a positive contribution to the academic achievement and, indeed, the lives of the students we support.
ABOUT THE TEAM:
The Student Welfare Team is a small and relatively new team which sits within the wider Student Services Directorate. The team provides support and a case management response to students reporting various concerns including, for example, discrimination, harassment, hate crime and homelessness. A major part of our work is responding to student reports of sexual violence submitted through our on-line Report and Support reporting system. In addition to responding to these issues, and supporting our students, we are also seeking to enhance our approach to preventing these issues arising in the first place though training and information sharing among the student population.
ABOUT THE CANDIDATE:
The successful candidate will:
- Understand the role of a case manager.
- Understand the boundaries of the role (referring to specialist services as required).
- Be experienced in supporting people with complex needs.
- Be resilient in the face of potentially harrowing reports from students.
- Be empathetic and sensitive to the needs of the students.
- Be confident in the planning and delivery of training/campaigns which will include issues of sexual health, sexual misconduct and substance use.
For a full list of our candidate criteria please see the attached Job Description.
Responsibilities:
We are now recruiting for the new post of Senior Student Welfare and Health Promotion Advisor. The postholder will provide a case management service to students who self-refer or who are referred to the service with the type of issues described above.
The post holder will also take the lead, with the support of the team, in developing and delivering projects and campaigns which promote student health (including sexual health and healthy relationships), and which ensure that students are aware of the issues associated with sexual consent, and the support available to them should they be subject to sexual misconduct. This will be in line with Office for Student expectations regarding the provision of information to students related to the issue of harassment and sexual misconduct on campus.
This will be a challenging but rewarding role. As part of a small but supportive team the post holder will support students who may be facing difficult and distressing life events.
The nature of the issues presented will require the postholder to work closely with colleagues across the University and, in particular, the Counselling, Mental Health and Wellbeing Service, the Disability Service and colleagues working in our halls.
The successful candidate will be expected to undertake Sexual Violence Liaison Officer training as soon as possible.
