The Senior Systems Engineer leads the development of new systems, products, and features for hearing impaired recipients through the application of systems engineering best practice. They also partner with product/system project manager and work closely with cross functional teams to ensure delivery of quality products meeting business objectives and user needs.
The Opportunity
Cochlear has an opportunity for a 12-month fixed term full time, Senior Systems Engineer based in our Macquarie, Sydney office. In this role, the successful Senior Systems Engineer will function as the product development representative and technical contact for specific relevant technologies that are maturing and are being transferred into Product development from Advanced Innovation.

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead product/system level design, design decisions and issue resolution, especially where cross-disciplinary. trade-offs are required – able to dive deep and understand technical detail whilst considering big picture.
  • Lead feature level design decisions and issue resolution and ensuring the appropriate feedback loops and progress updates are provided to project stakeholders.
  • Provide technical support in dealing with CAPAs and other design issues to other teams within R&D and more broadly within Cochlear organization.
  • Work with the systems engineering leaders to proactively identify and implement systems engineering discipline and process improvements.
  • Help strengthen Cochlear’s patent portfolio through the contribution of patent disclosures.
  • Partner with product/system project manager and work closely with cross functional teams to ensure delivery of quality products meeting business objectives and user needs.
  • Contribute to development of product architecture, where appropriate, through involvement with architecture clusters and other related groups.

About You
To add value to Cochlear in this role, you’ll be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

Essential:

  • Engineering/Science degree (Electrical, Software, Mechanical, Biomedical or Systems engineering preferred).
  • 5 years post-qualification engineering experience in a R&D environment preferably with high-tech products.
  • Understanding of systems engineering principles, methods and tools that are appropriate for the development of medical devices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (and adjust communication style as needed) with cross-functional teams at various levels.
  • Experience in influencing stakeholders to arrive at decisions and deliver project outcomes.
  • Experience working in team-oriented, collaborative environment.

Ideal:

  • Understanding of technical architecture and application of Cochlear products and systems.
  • Experience in implant development or in the highly regulated industry, e.g., medical devices.
  • Experience working in Agile product development.
