Description:
Overview:
Woolpert is currently seeking a senior systems engineering consultant responsible for working with and leading technical teams and client engagements in the areas of planning, management, maintenance, and operations of transportation and infrastructure systems. Woolpert’s Strategic Consulting Sector focuses on providing strategic guidance and specialized assistance to public and private sector organizations that manage and operate physical infrastructure and transport networks. Typical engagements for this position are likely to include conducting and leading small teams through diverse and complex technical analyses and models, operational studies, applied research, and the development of software tools that support strategic plans for operations and management.
Responsibilities:
- Provide varied and complex technical analytical studies in a technical, client-facing capacity.
- Utilize technical and creative thinking for developing new and innovative analytical approaches to complex problems outside of initial expertise, delivering the work, and communicating the approach and its value to a broad range of technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Utilize operations research/advanced analytics and software languages for technical analysis and the development of small-scale tools.
- Perform management consulting, data analytics, and facility and asset management
- Advise organizations on potential options, recommendations for change, and solution implementation.
Qualifications:
- M.S./M.Eng./Ph.D. degree in a related field plus a minimum of 3 years of related experience.
- Experience in one or more transport/infrastructure system (e.g., aviation, maritime, highways, energy, water, freight, and supply chain logistics).
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical and programmatic project teams.
- Demonstrated ability to develop creative, technical solutions to new and complex technical problems.
- Technical proficiency in one (minimum) or more (preferred) of the following fields applied to transport/infrastructure systems:
o Artificial intelligence (such as ML/DL, LLM, and prompt engineering).
o Mathematical optimization (such as LP/IP/MIP/DP) with CPLEX, Gurobi, Google OR Tools, or equivalent platform.
o Simulation of transport operations.
o Physical planning and design using CADD software.
o Database design and data structures for operational data.
o Financial modeling.
- Technical proficiency with Python (minimum) and other software languages (e.g., C++, R, OPL, and VBA).
- Excellent English verbal and written communication skills.
Physical Qualifications:
- Must be able to sit for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to operate and manipulate standard office equipment.
- Must be able to occasionally reach, bend, climb, and/or balance.
- Must be able to frequently lift and/or move 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
- Must be able to travel as required.
