Description:
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
- Completion of a university degree in computer science technology or a related discipline (or an equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered)
- 5+ years of experience in systems engineering with a strong focus on hybrid cloud environments and virtualization
- Relevant certifications are highly desirable
- ITIL Foundation v3 or later accreditation is preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Extensive experience with hybrid cloud architecture and operations
- Proficiency in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and integrating these with on-premise systems
- Strong experience in virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V, KVM)
- Advanced knowledge of Linux and Windows server environments
- Ability to use infrastructure as code (Terraform) and configuration management (Puppet, Ansible) technologies in hybrid and multi-cloud tiered environments
- Extensive knowledge of monitoring tools (such as Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, Elasticsearch, Fluentd, CloudWatch)
- Familiarity deploying services within highly segmented software-defined networks
- Ability to containerize existing applications for deployment on a container orchestrator
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and tools
- Familiarity with system management software
- Ability to develop and maintain scripts in PowerShell, Bash, Python
- Knowledge of varied techniques, patterns, and technologies to ensure maximum availability for critical services
- Ability to develop and recommend operational standards, procedures and strategies related to the work
- Ability to ensure the application of approved best practices
- Ability to provide technical guidance and assistance to colleagues, vendors and service providers
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing
- Ability to produce complete and concise documentation relating to the work performed
- Familiarity with best-practice deployment of relational databases
Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Supervisor, Infrastructure Services, a Senior Systems Engineer builds, configures, and deploys services in the PRIME-BC environment; provides escalation support and troubleshooting for advanced and complex technical problems; assists in the coordination of preventive and corrective changes and maintenance of systems and interfaces. The incumbent participates in the planning, detailed design, implementation, tuning, monitoring, hardening, administration, maintenance and management of PRIME-BC hybrid infrastructure to support the delivery of mission critical applications and services in support of PRIMECorp’s mission and mandate.
An ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of traditional on-premise systems, virtualization, cloud platforms, and integration between these environments.
