Description:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and a minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and a minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience.
  • Active and transferable U.S. DoD Secret security clearance is required prior to start date.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

SKILLS YOU MUST HAVE:

  • Experience with MBSE and model-based design.
  • Experience developing, decomposing, and maintaining system requirements.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience with Python for test automation.
  • Experience with Cameo modeling tool.
  • Experience with a Requirements management tool (Doors, Jama, etc.)
  • Experience with avionics systems, interfaces, and standards (ARINC 429, MIL-STD-1553, etc.)

Senior Systems Engineer – Trainer Programs (Onsite)
Collins Aerospace is on the lookout for a talented Sr. Systems Engineer to join our Sterling, VA team within the Simulation and Training Solutions (STS) business area. STS builds highly realistic simulators and training systems for military and commercial customers. We utilize cutting-edge technology to deliver highly specialized training for some of the most demanding jobs in aviation. Devices range in complexity from desktop training all the way up to high-fidelity weapon systems and full flight training systems, including full visual motion and simulator interoperability.
In this position, you will become a technical focal for the design, integration, and testing of multi-platform training device software and hardware features. You will work in a fast-paced, modern, agile development environment, and collaborate closely with software and hardware to build and test advanced mission capabilities and features.
This position requires a US Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance and the ability to maintain SAP access. This position is onsite in Sterling, Virginia, and most of the job functions are performed inside of a closed area.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Contribute to the design and testing approaches for complex software and hardware features.
  • Define operational concepts and support working groups with customers.
  • Apply Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodologies to support the development cycle using Cameo.
  • Derive and decompose requirements and communicate technical specifications between development teams.
  • Contribute to agile planning meetings and help define acceptance criteria for features based on customer requirements.
  • Participate in customer demonstrations of new features or prototypes and incorporate customer feedback into our designs.
  • Assist in verification and validation efforts.
  • Work autonomously with limited oversight to achieve program objectives which have a major impact to the product.
  • Influence decisions within your work area and promote modular and efficient system designs.
  • Coach and review the work of junior engineers. May manage small development efforts or processes within work area.
  • May be asked to provide estimates for development efforts.
  • Cultivate a culture of ownership, accountability, innovation, and technical excellence.
