Our Senior Technical Specialist plays a pivotal role in our IT department, providing strategic direction, project management, and operational support across various technology areas. We’re seeking a Senior Technical Specialist to join our head office located in Vernon, British Columbia. Our head office houses Tolko’s corporate services groups including Sales, Marketing & Logistics, Finance, Accounting & Credit, IT, Procurement, and Human Resources.

Our ideal candidate has the following qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience working in an IT server infrastructure role.
  • Extensive experience with desktop and server operating systems, including Windows, Virtualization, Backup systems, Disaster Recovery, SAN Storage, cloud, Firewalls, and cybersecurity tools and processes.
  • Strong knowledge of the principles of Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) and Infrastructure architecture.
  • Expert-level knowledge of Microsoft technologies; Windows Server, Active Directory, Azure, and cyber security principles.
  • Proven experience as the technical lead for projects and strong knowledge of project management.
  • Experience leading major incident resolution, problem management, and continuous improvement.

In this role, you will:

  • Develop strategies for project delivery, tier 3 support, and operational maintenance.
  • Work closely with Process Control & Optimization Specialists and mill operations to meet business needs while maintaining IT best practices.
  • Research and make recommendations on products and services, protocols, and standards to support the corporate strategic plan and infrastructure practices.
  • Provide mentoring and coaching to Technical Specialists and Service Desk Specialists.
  • Evaluate, install, configure, and deploy new systems, software, products, and enhancements to existing infrastructure.
  • Lead the design and execution of all IT capital projects for companywide initiatives.
  • Ensure the company’s assets are protected through strict security, up-to-date anti-virus, disaster recovery plans, and backup/recovery strategies.
  • Provide after-hours and on-call support for major incidents, projects, or routine maintenance as needed.
