Salary: $2,513.34 to $3,310.25 bi-weekly ($65,598 to $86,397/year)
The Agri-Food Assurance Section operates laboratories accredited to ISO/IEC 17025 that provide laboratory analyses in support of animal health outbreaks and disease response, surveillance programs, export requirements and market access. Additional activities include outreach to provincially licensed meat and dairy facilities, and conducting food and food safety policy analysis.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two (2) year technical diploma in a related field, such as biochemistry, molecular biology or microbiology, plus
  • Four (4) years related experience working with molecular diagnostic tools in an agricultural or scientific context.

Equivalencies are considered: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

Responsibilities:

As a Molecular Technologist 5, you will play a pivotal role in our team by performing specialized molecular biology techniques to support the development and maintenance of rapid detection/identification laboratory testing. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting advanced molecular diagnostic tests using PCR, sequencing, and bioinformatics.
  • Designing and validating molecular assays for the detection and identification of animal health related pathogens.
  • Working under an internationally recognized standards organization (ISO 17025) to analyze genetic materials and optimize testing in support of surveillance and regulatory programs.
  • Preparing reports and communicating findings to various stakeholders, including scientists and industry partners.
  • Leading research projects, mentoring junior staff, and contributing to the continuous improvement of laboratory protocols.
