Description:
JOB SUMMARY:
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Telecommunications Technician to join our team. This role is a multifaceted position encompassing Inside Plant (ISP), Outside Plant (OSP), and Security Systems work. The ideal candidate will have experience in the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of telecommunications systems, structured cabling, and security systems in both commercial and industrial settings.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Technical Diploma in a related field preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in Outside Plant, Inside Plant and or Security Systems work.
- Relevant certifications: TE Connectivity, Belden, Commscope, Systimax, Corning, and one or more certifications from Lenel, Milestone Systems, or Avigilon are assets.
- Valid Class 5 Operator’s License or equivalent and a clean Driver’s Abstract (5 years). Ability to pass pre-access drug and alcohol testing and provide a criminal record check.
- Strong understanding of networking requirements, telecommunication codes, wiring standards, and regulations.
- Proficient with MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel) and highly proficient computer skills.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills with attention to detail.
- Exceptional customer service skills and ability to work under pressure.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Team-oriented with strong time management and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to grasp new techniques and adapt to rapidly changing environments.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safe work practices (OH&S).
- Previous training in confined spaces, elevated work platforms, fall arrest, bucket truck operation, and first aid is an asset.
Responsibilities:
OUTSIDE PLANT TECHNICIAN (OSP) DUTIES
- Install, repair, and maintain aerial and underground fiber optic, coaxial, and copper cabling systems.
- Conduct site surveys and prepare detailed reports on field conditions and project requirements.
- Perform fiber optic and copper cabling splicing, testing, and troubleshooting using OTDR and Power Meters.
- Manage and document inventory of tools and materials required for field operations.
- Service, install, and repair OSP cabling infrastructure including conduits, splice connections, fittings, and couplings.
- Supervise and coordinate activities of assigned apprentices and new workers.
- Represent the company with customers and enforce safety regulations.
INSIDE PLANT TECHNICIAN (ISP) DUTIES
- Install, configure, and maintain telecommunications equipment in data centers and central offices.
- Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance of inside plant systems and components.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues with servers, routers, switches, and other network hardware.
- Ensure compliance with company standards and industry regulations for inside plant operations.
SECURITY SYSTEM TECHNICIAN DUTIES
- Install, program, test, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair security system equipment, including access control, CCTV, and Network Video Recorders.
- Conduct system diagnostics, troubleshoot issues, and implement solutions for effective security operations.
- Install, configure, and support a variety of systems and equipment for assigned projects.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and debug hardware and software issues across a range of systems.
- Commission new systems, analyze performance, identify malfunctions, and provide custom systems integrations.
- Collaborate with clients to understand their security needs and recommend system enhancements.
- Stay updated on the latest security technologies and industry best practices.
STRUCTURED CABLING TECHNICIAN DUTIES
- Install, repair, and maintain structured cabling systems, including Cat 5E, Cat 6, Cat 6A, and Fiber Optic cables.
- Install and test communication circuits via available communications cabling networks.
- Perform installation of field connectors, testing using OTDR and Power Meters.
