Description:

We have a vacancy for a Senior Theatre Practitioner to join our theatre team at the new Surgical Centre at Victoria Infirmary, Northwich. Scrub and or Anaesthetics
There will be a rotation to multiple specialities as part of a bespoke staff development programme
Candidates should have at least 2 years theatre experience, with a specific interest in Scrub and or Anaesthetics as an integral part of Operating Department Practice
The Centre will have 2 new theatres as well as an Ophthalmic injection room, the department will undertake a range of procedures under local anaesthetic including Ophthalmic, ENT, General Surgery, Pain & Orthopaedics’
The candidate should also have an interest in developing, supporting and promoting our Theatre Practitioners and will also have evidence of post registration continuing education and an ability and enthusiasm for innovation and leadership.
The post is a permanent, full time position but part time applications will also be considered.

Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (MCHFT) provides good quality, safe and effective healthcare to the people of Cheshire and beyond. The Trust, which manages Leighton Hospital in Crewe, Victoria Infirmary in Northwich, and Elmhurst Intermediate Care Centre in Winsford, was established as an NHS Trust in April 1991 and became a Foundation Trust in April 2008.

CLINICAL SKILLS

Implement and monitor systems and processes to ensure that patient needs are comprehensively assessed, appropriately planned, effectively implemented and evaluated according to changing health care needs and varying levels of complexity.
Implement change and best practice in terms of patient flow, by proactive management of theatre sessions ensuring agreed timescales/utilisation is met in accordance with the Theatre schedule.
Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team/agencies to ensure that patient needs are met, especially in relation to on-going care needs and discharge arrangements.
Involve patients, relatives/carers in providing reassurance and support to assist their understanding and co-operation.
Ensure that the clinical environment is correctly and safely prepared, that the appropriate level of cleanliness is maintained, and that relevant materials and equipment needed for clinical procedures are available and ready for use, including the clearing away and restoring equipment/environment afterwards.
Recognise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations, ensuring that others do so.
Collect, collate, and report information, ensuring that patient records/computer systems/documentation are accurate, complete and legible, and can be retrieved promptly.
Participate in the surgical/anaesthetic on call rotas.

EDUCATION/LEARNING

Take responsibility for own learning by full participation in appraisal and clinical supervision, attending mandatory training, developing own “expert” knowledge and skills for their area, maintaining a professional portfolio.
Provide induction, work based learning and assessment of others designed to improve knowledge and clinical practice within the team, including compliance of others with regard to mandatory training, development of speciality knowledge and associated equipment.
Promote a learning environment for multi-disciplinary students ensuring their learning objectives are met.
