An exciting opportunity has arisen for Theatre Practitioners (anaesthetic, scrub and/or recovery trained). If you are highly motivated and enthusiastic, as well as keen to develop yourself, your team and our service then we would like to hear from you. Previous theatre experience is essential; ophthalmology experience is desirable but not essential.
The department comprises three theatres, a Medical Retina Suite and Minor Operations room based at a large university teaching hospital. We are tertiary referral centre serving a wide area across the South of England. Southampton General sees many complex cases and offers innovative treatments accross a broad speciality range.
Eye Unit clinical staff have been recognised as leaders in the field. Our consultant group includes world authorities in Medical Retina Disease and Corneal Surgery, among others.
We run an emergency service in the evenings and at weekends so a flexible approach to working patterns is essential.

What you’ll do

  • As a Senior Practitioner, you will participate in the management of OR teams and provide clinical expertise within the theatre suite
  • You will supervise, develop and teach qualified and non-qualified staff
  • You will act as a role model in the delivery of safe and effective care, and as a deputy in the absence of the Team Leader
  • You will ensure effective utilisation of time and resources whilst maintaining quality

What we’re looking for

  • Professional registration suitable for the post (NMC/HCPC registered)
  • Significant experience as an Operating Department Practitioner or Nurse at B5 or equivalent (ideally ophthalmic experience)
  • Evidence of mentoring and teaching in a clinical role
  • Demonstrable management skills/qualification
  • Willingness to learn, adapt and change in step with service demand
  • Commitment to team working
