About the Role
We are currently hiring for a Senior Transmission Network Engineer in either Melbourne or Sydney to be our Subject Matter Expert in DWDM/OTN/SDH networks across a range of Product Families from Multiple Well-regarded Vendors. We proudly own and operate one of Australia’s biggest Back-haul networks which hasn’t stopped growing.
This relatively small team manages all Vocus’s Operational Terrestrial & Submarine Back-haul network Vocus Transmission Network Operations is a one stop shop for everything from Faults, Commissioning, Deployment & Upgrades.

You will bring vast experience in the field of Terrestrial and Submarine Transmission networks. And be the Senior Member in a team of Experts in the field who are vastly experienced & knowledgeable in their work area. Team follows Vocus’s Hybrid work policy and requires participation in on-call Roster for Fault & Change Work.

  • Own & resolve Transmission Network faults escalated by the NOC from a Single Service Fault to a Major Incident on Terrestrial to Submarine Network.
  • Lead the team based on proven technical expertise in the Platforms we Own and Operate
  • Participate in Large Scale Network deployments & Customer service provisioning in timely and efficient manner
  • Assume ownership of Migrations activities
  • Ensure routine, ad-hoc and emergency maintenance is scheduled and completed
  • Prepare/Maintain/Follow documentation for Provisioning, Maintenance and troubleshooting activities
  • Managing and Performing Network wide Platform software and hardware upgrades in line with Lifecycle Management Plans
  • Auditing & Performing Decommissioning of Legacy Telecommunication Platforms
  • Perform proactive maintenance to maximize network availability
  • Identify potential network risks and create contingency plans
  • Ongoing mentoring and training of NOC Staff, Internal team and other Stakeholders
  • Ensure relevant issues are escalated to Vendors, and tracked appropriately
  • Providing key inputs into Planning, Implementation and Acceptance of new technology and products
  • Liaise with Vocus Architecture/Engineering Teams and Vendor to ensure operations requirements are met

About You

  • Bachelor’s qualification in Telecommunications or Information Technology.
  • At least 10 years of Experience in Telecom Industry in various relevant Roles, at least 5 years as a L2/3 Operations Engineer with past experience in owning a Operations Platform
  • Strong understanding of DWDM/OTN, Submarine, SDH technology from previous work experience.
  • Working knowledge of one or more Network Management Systems; Nokia NFM-T, ADVA ENC, Ciena MCP
  • Working knowledge of one or more Family of Products; Nokia 1830, ADVA FSP3k, Ciena 6500 RLS/Waveserver
  • Working knowledge of Alcatel Submarine Networks 1620 Platform and SN10 Management System would be a Value add.
  • Experience maintaining and supporting large scale Transmission networks. 6. Strong understanding of Fiber Infrastructure, including but not limited to reviewing OTDR & Insertion Loss results.
  • Demonstrable Strong Problem-solving skills in a multi-vendor Operational Transmission network
  • Strong Interpersonal & Communication Skills to work with a wide variety of Stakeholders including Other Operations Engineers, Senior Management, Field Staff, and Vendor/3rd parties
