YOUR OPPORTUNITY

Our Transportation group provides comprehensive planning, design, and engineering services for all phases of bridge, roadway, rail and transit projects. Our Alberta team is seeking a senior transportation engineer who will provide planning and engineering services for our Transit team. While the focus of this role will be on transit projects, it will also include supporting transportation planning, sustainable modes, multi-modal, and other types of projects and initiatives as needed.
We are looking for a highly motivated individual who can work in a team environment, has an in depth understanding of transit systems, design principals, and can lead complex pursuits and technical projects. This individual can also effectively train and mentor junior individuals on the team and step into a people leadership role with supervisory responsibilities. This role provides the opportunity to work on exciting local, regional, national, and even international projects.

YOUR CAPABILITIES AND CREDENTIALS:

  • Self-motivated individual with the ability to work in a team environment or independently
  • Understanding and awareness of design standards including City of Calgary, City of Edmonton, TAC, Alberta Transportation, AASHTO, etc. is considered an asset
  • Past experience on alternative delivery of transit projects is considered an asset
  • Owner’s Engineer (OE) experience is considered an asset
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite of programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Works collaboratively in a team environment and engages in creative and critical thought
  • Ability to lead, motivate, mentor, and develop a team and supporting individuals’ professional development and career growth
  • Demonstrates leadership, sound business principles, excellent communication, and strong people skills
  • Knowledge of traffic modeling software such as Synchro or VISSIM considered an asset
  • Knowledge of modelling and design software (Autodesk, Infraworks, OpenRoads and/or Civil3D) is considered an asset
  • Business development and marketing skills would be an asset

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Degree in Civil Engineering (or related field)
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Alberta or ability to obtain within the next 6 months
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience
    Position will primarily work in an office setting but may require some field work. Travel is required and anticipated to be 10-20% of the time.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage transit projects through the strategic, conceptual, preliminary engineering, detailed design and construction phases
  • Manage multi-disciplinary teams and liaise all disciplines to ensure all work is completed to a high standard and with a consistent approach
  • Prepare project workplans, schedules and budgets, and work to meet them
  • Interact with clients on a regular basis providing ongoing communication, project updates, and client support
  • Lead the development of design plans, technical specifications and quantity/cost estimates
  • Prepare engineering reports and technical memos
  • Provide input and guidance to project designers and CAD leads
  • Ensure applicable standards, quality assurance and quality control procedures are followed during the project
  • Coordinate all project disciplines including bus and LRT systems, transportation structures, buildings, roads, utilities, and other specialty areas to ensure interdisciplinary design integration
  • Provide technical direction and oversight to team members
  • Facilitate goal setting, coaching, and performance reviews with each of your team members
  • Promote our strong safety culture, ensure this is at the forefront of our business and lead by example
  • Lead or assist with project pursuits, proposal preparation and other marketing and business development activities as needed
