ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • An established, significant, and internationally recognised track record in research or practice within architecture, evidenced through publications, exhibitions, or other outputs.
  • Expertise in innovative architectural pedagogy and the ability to lead transformation in research and teaching approaches.
  • Current knowledge of developments in architectural practice and education, particularly in response to ARB/RIBA updates.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organisational, and communication skills, with a collaborative and proactive approach to working with staff and students.

Responsibilities:

PURPOSE OF THE POST

The Royal College of Art is seeking a highly accomplished and visionary Senior Tutor (Research) to join the School of Architecture, contributing to the MA Architecture programme. This role offers a unique opportunity to lead innovative transformations in research, teaching, and learning practices, aligned with the College’s Strategic Plan, the New Academic Framework, and the recent updates to ARB and RIBA standards for architectural education.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate closely with the Head of Programme to conceptualise and implement forward-thinking approaches to research, teaching, and learning.
  • Support the programme in meeting and maintaining ARB/RIBA Part II accreditation, reflecting innovation and excellence in architectural education.
  • Deliver high-quality teaching and contribute to the development and delivery of the curriculum, ensuring alignment with the school’s ambitions and validation requirements.
  • Develop and foster research aligned with one or more of the School’s strategic priority areas: ecology and climate change, city design and/or intergenerational cities, mobility, and migration.
  • Engage in knowledge exchange and develop partnerships to enhance the reputation and impact of the programme.
  • Demonstrate an appreciation and knowledge of institutional processes and their capacity for transformation.
