Description:

WHAT YOU’LL NEED FOR SUCCESS

  • 5+ years of proven experience in Commercial Insurance underwriting or retail broking with a strong focus on Professional Liability; MGA experience a plus
  • Experience in underwriting mid-level to complex professional liability risks, y in Healthcare and Life Sciences
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement in risk selection with strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate and interpret complex information.
  • Strong decision-making skills, business development acumen, and creativity in underwriting risks
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with an emphasis on building and maintaining relationships.
  • Commitment to high standards of customer service and quality delivery
  • Leadership qualities with a passion for mentoring and team development
  • Knowledge of the insurance industry, including regulatory and compliance frameworks
  • A strong work ethic, good organizational skills, and the ability to work within a team environment.
  • Good team player
  • Experience with TAM or Policy Works broker management systems
  • Required to travel up to 25% for Broker visits and meetings.
  • CIP, CRM Designation preferred.
  • Have or willing to obtain RIBO License in short order.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Totten Insurance Group is on an exciting growth trajectory, and we’re looking for a dynamic and experienced Senior Underwriter to bolster our Healthcare and Life Sciences Practice. This role is tailor-made for a professional with a robust background in professional liability. As a key member of our team, you will underwrite complex new and renewal business, demonstrating strong technical and commercial underwriting acumen. WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Complex Risk Analysis and Underwriting: Analyze and underwrite complex risks in the healthcare and life science sectors, focusing on compliance, accuracy, and risk assessment. Your expertise will guide the risk assessment process, ensuring thorough and reliable evaluations.
  • Document Review and Information Gathering: Scrutinize submission documentation, including engineering reports, schedules/GANTT charts, and budget breakdowns. Utilize your keen attention to detail to request additional information as required, ensuring comprehensive and accurate assessments.
  • Compliance and Standards Adherence: Ensure all activities comply with company standards, underwriting guidelines, and the stipulations of various delegated underwriting authority contracts. Your role is crucial in maintaining the integrity and reliability of our underwriting processes.
  • Carrier Collaboration: Prepare and submit detailed referral documentation to carriers, both domestically and at Lloyd’s. Your diplomatic skills will be key in fostering productive and beneficial relationships with our carrier partners.
  • Broker Partnership and Negotiation: Present quotations to broker partners, negotiating the best terms available for the client. Your negotiation skills will directly impact our client satisfaction and business success.
  • Business Development: Play a pivotal role based on your previous success in soliciting new broker and carrier partnerships while nurturing existing relationships. Your ability to network and build connections will drive our growth and expansion to meet budgetary requirements.
  • Product Knowledge & Development: Develop a strong understanding of the various solutions that can be offered through our network of markets and Lloyd’s relationships. Seek out ways to continuously improve our Product offering and provides solutions in collaboration with the Manager and Chief Underwriting Officer.
  • Customer Service Excellence: Uphold and promote a high standard of customer service. Your commitment to client satisfaction will reinforce Totten’s reputation as a customer-centric organization.
  • Mentorship and Team Development: Proactively involved in act as a mentor to junior staff, supporting their growth and development within the team. Your guidance will shape the future talent of Totten Insurance Group.
