Description:
SENIOR UX DESIGNER
Hello!
We’re BrightHR. We saw that small business owners were spending hours every day on their HR tasks, and we wanted to create a system that made those same chores quicker and easier to do.
So, we put our heads together and created software that was unlike any other, and that’s how BrightHR was born.
Since our launch in 2015, we’ve branched out into other areas of HR for small businesses.
Now, we offer 24/7 employment law advice, expert health & safety support, a confidential employee wellbeing service and much more!
No wonder 100,000 businesses – across the UK, Ireland, Canada, New Zealand and Australia—trust us to free them of their paperwork and keep them on the right side of the law!
There’s also 200 of us! You’ll mostly find us in our modern, city center office which boasts some of the best views you’ll get of the city and is a stone’s throw from Victoria Station. We believe that magic happens when talented people get together in a room and our hybrid approach of 4 days in the office & 1 day at home, has nurtured a tight-knit community at BrightHR, one where face-to-face interaction isn’t just a necessity; it’s a preference that drives our collaborative spirit and creative solutions.
Be a part of a highly successful, mature, profit-making business that retains the community driven approach of a start-up. We believe in the power of face-to-face collaboration and are looking for a Senior UX Designer to lead and inspire our design team, bringing innovation and quality to our web applications and component libraries. If you’re passionate about a research, and user-centric first design approach, and thrive in a dynamic, agile setting, we’d love to hear from you.
ABOUT YOU
Senior Designers at BrightHR are strong individual contributors; they’re given a lot of autonomy and trust to work on high impact design projects. For this specific role, we’re looking for someone who values the following:
- Experienced and Innovative: You’ll have 5-8 years’ in a SaaS or client services environment and bring a wealth of experience in UX design, with a portfolio that showcases your ability to create user-centered, innovative solutions.
- Strategic Thinker: You can see the big picture, aligning design decisions with business goals and user needs. You can find the highest impact opportunities and iterate on them quickly while things are in motion.
- Leadership Skills: You’re a natural leader, capable of guiding and inspiring a team, while also being a hands-on designer.
- Autonomous: You are autonomous on large projects (3-12 months) and comfortable dropping into working on a wide range of platforms and subject matter/industries. Alternatively, you could be a specialist in one or two areas.
- Progress and impact: We have to be mindful of this and ensure we keep making decisions and move forward. This means being solutions oriented and prioritising progress over correctness when it’s the right call, keeping the customer in mind at all times.
- Candidness: We encourage candidness and recognise its role in building trust between peers and leadership. It can take time and effort to get there but it’s worth it. Making decisions for projects, design patterns, and processes, will yield better results when we can get to the “real talk”.
- Systems thinking: Our team has to apply decisions holistically, making sure to look at new patterns in context to the larger system of the product, as well as ensuring we support experiences for individual features.
- Inclusive design: Commitment to inclusive design, with extensive knowledge of accessibility guidelines. Designing for inclusivity first, can lead us to solving problems for the many, and open up BrightHR for more people.
- Creating together: Getting to the right result is our focus, this can come from systems designers or product designers, and ideally both. Facilitating collaboration between teams and individuals is key so that we continue to evolve the design system alongside the needs of the product.
Responsibilities:
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
Design and Research Leadership (70%): Lead the UX design process for our SaaS products, guiding a cross-functional team through every stage from ideation to deployment. Take ownership of complex projects, ensuring they meet our high standards for usability and aesthetics.
Process and Tooling Optimisation (15%): Drive the refinement of our design processes and the adoption of new tools. Your experience and insights will help us stay at the forefront of the industry.
Mentorship and Development (15%): Mentor junior designers, sharing your knowledge and experience to help them grow. Stay abreast of industry trends and continuously push the boundaries of what’s possible in UX design.
