Description:

The ED & Acute medicine directorate is looking for a motivated and dynamic individual to join the operational and clinical team. The individual will work with the clinical teams to ensure high standards of care are delivered to our patients who attend our departments.
The post holder will provide a highly visible and credible presence across the ED & Acute medicine directorate and will act as point of contact for the department. They will ensure that high standards of patient care and communication are provided to all patients and will work with clinical teams to ensure that national and local targets are being met.

Responsibilities:

Service development and delivery
To support the operations manager in developing service development plans / business plans to align national direction/strategies and local priorities.
Work with clinical teams to ensure national and local trust targets are met.
The post holder will be responsible in ensuring that resources are used effectively and efficiently and work with the staff, leading and coaching them to maximise their potential in support of their future career options.
The post holder in conjunction with the operations manager and head of nursing will ensure that patient safety is maintained to the highest level.
The post holder will deputise for the operations manager as required.

Financial management

  • To track budgets of agreed delegated responsibility to enable monthly variance reporting.
  • To put in the place proactive steps to ensure that control measures are in place.
  • To ensure that all income is appropriately assigned to the correct specialty in line with the national tariff.
  • To track income from all clinical areas to ensure that this in line with planned forecasts for each specialty.
  • To work with the operations manager to be able to explain the rationale for any variances and take corrective actions as requested.

Human resources management

To manage administration and support staff employed within services included within the remit of the role.

  • To manage timely and effective recruitment and retention of staff in conjunction with the HR department.
  • To ensure appraisal is carried out for all staff and training needs are identified with resources.
  • To manage mandatory training levels and ensure that service records are kept up to date.
  • To manage absence rates within the staff group.
  • To ensure optimal use of staffing resources and review workforce requirements as required.
  • To ensure all staff are aware of and implement Trust policies and procedures and establish and implement local guidelines, policies and procedures as appropriate.

General management

  • Ensure that there are effective administration processes in place to ensure that patient access to services is optimised.
  • Ensure that there are effective mechanisms for communication of the business processes to all staff under the remit of the role.
  • Support the delivery of access targets within the service through effective management of consultant leave and capacity & demand management in line with the Trust consultant leave policy.
  • Take proactive steps as requested by operations manager if there is any

deviation from the delivery of the access targets.

  • Support the investigation of patient complaints, analysing the issues and

identifying any faults in procedures, processes or the treatment of patients and making appropriate recommendations to the operations manager and others to avoid future occurrences
