Course description: An introduction to the main elements of the Italian language. The development of speaking, reading, and writing skills. Introduction to Italian culture and texts.

Minimum qualifications:

  • A PhD in Italian Studies or equivalent is required.
  • Native or near native proficiency in Italian is required.
  • Demonstrable and proven skills in explaining grammar concepts clearly and concisely with relevant Italian examples are required.
  • Demonstrable and proven skills in describing and explaining Italian cultural items with relevant comparison to the North American cultural milieu are required.
  • Previous experience in teaching Italian language for beginners is required.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Extensive and demonstrated excellence in teaching, and designing, language courses in a variety of academic contexts is preferred.
  • Extensive experience teaching language courses online is preferred.
  • Previous experience in teaching similar courses or equivalent is preferred.

Description of duties: Duties include course preparation and delivery of course content; coordination of course sections; designing and preparing tests, assignments, and exams, in collaboration with other instructors in the course; marking written and oral assignments, tests, and exams in accordance to shared grading rubrics and in accordance with university regulations; calculating and submitting grades; holding regular office hours; and attending course administrative meetings as required. Also required is the ability to produce effective instructional videos and for the use of students in the course.
