Responsibilities:
ROLES SUMMARY
The shelter manager will be responsible for delivering high-quality care to the children and young people living in the shelter, the delivery of all care services, as well as the strategic planning for developments within the home, and all day-to-day management matters.
The Foundation Shelter will provide short-term shelter to children and their non-offending family members where the case management plan indicates this to be the most suitable intervention.
Additionally, the shelter manager will provide high-quality care services that support the needs of the children, be an advocate for their well-being and provide strong, motivational leadership to staff.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Shelter Administration
· Manage the shelter and ensure the efficient operation of the services in the shelter.
· Coordinate and monitor administrative functions of the shelter and evaluate standards of performance.
· Contribute to the shelter team’s training and development programs in order to ensure the services provided have all the necessary skills and expertise to meet the needs of the children/young people.
· Assist in the management, appraisal, supervision and support of all residential staff.
· Be involved in the recruitment of staff including vetting, interviewing and inducting new employees.
· Ensure that the Company’s financial and administrative procedures are adhered to and work within a set budget.
· Ensure that all necessary documentation required by regulators is completed to a high standard and is available for inspections, checks or interviews as requested.
Care Giving
· To assist and supervise in the continual assessment of the needs of the children and young people and to identify and prepare specific development plans to ensure the most appropriate service provision.
· To monitor arrangements for any holidays, recreational outings and social activities with the children and young people and to ensure the implementation of related risk assessments.
· To ensure that there are regular stimulating and meaningful activities for the children and young people to engage in which reflect their personal interests and preferences.
· To embed a culture of high aspirations and ambition for the children and young people in which young people experience positive outcomes.
Stakeholder Engagement
· Contribute to the development of appropriate relationships with and between shelter staff, young people and other stakeholders.
· Ensure at all times that professional ethics and behaviour are demonstrated by all staff at all times. Actively work as a focal point for support, advice and coaching to all staff within the shelter.
· Responsible for safeguarding and promoting individual rights, providing good quality care which is free from oppression and where differences are respected and valued in the shelter.
· Maintain confidentiality of the information and work in line with all relevant codes of practice and governing legislation.
· Promote appropriate and therapeutic relationships between staff and young people and their families, promoting the children and young people’s involvement and participation in the day-to-day life of the Home.
· Promote the health and safety of employees at work and of people supported through the implementation of the organization’s corporate Policy for Health, Safety and Welfare at Work in accordance with all relevant statutory requirements
· Maintain a clean and safe environment; ensure that the physical state of the building is maintained to a high standard and that all repair/maintenance problems are dealt with promptly.
· Participate in a range of corporate and management activities as defined by the Director of Operations.
ROLE QUALIFICATION
· Bachelor’s degree in social work or a related human services profession from an authorized program; or significant human services experience, including 3-5 years of experience providing shelter services.
· Prior management experience, preferably in a similar industry and/or related industry.
· Vast knowledge of safety policies.
