Description:

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Possession of a NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) and CertIOSH or higher membership level of IOSH.
  • Extensive experience in managing Health and Safety within the Design and Construction sectors, including the management of a team of SHEA Advisors.
  • In-depth understanding of Ecology and Wildlife Conservation Legislation to ensure compliance and informed decision-making.
  • Proven ability in managing both people and processes effectively, ensuring smooth operations and adherence to SHEQ standards.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities, with an open, honest, and clear communication style that can influence leaders, managers, and frontline workers.
  • Excellent negotiation, active listening skills, and the ability to motivate and inspire others.

Responsibilities:

As a SHEQ Manager at Farrans Construction for the Strategic Pipeline Alliance, you will develop and implement health, safety, environment, and wellbeing strategies. You will advise senior leadership on related matters, provide legal and practical guidance, and promote a culture of openness and compliance. You’ll integrate the Alliance’s LIFE values across teams and projects, manage SHEA resources efficiently, and ensure proper support during all project stages. Additionally, you will facilitate partner and supply chain engagement, and occasionally deputize for the Head of SHEA.

As a SHEQ Manager your duties will include:

  • Develop and Implement SHEA Strategy: Support the development and execution of the SHEA strategy for AMP8, including action plans and timescales, ensuring compliance and continual improvement.
  • Senior Briefings and Presentations: Create and deliver senior briefings, presentations, and updates to senior management on SHEA issues, ensuring transparency and informed decision-making.
  • Risk-Based Assurance and Compliance: Lead and manage a risk-based assurance strategy, ensuring compliance with HSEMS, Natural England license, and other statutory requirements.
  • Engagement and Relationship Building: Proactively engage with environmental bodies and participate in Alliance working groups to foster collaboration and adherence to SHEA standards.
  • Data Management and Reporting: Ensure timely collection, analysis, and reporting of SHEA data, KPIs, and metrics to drive performance improvement.
  • Incident Management and Investigation: Oversee incident investigations, establish root causes, develop action plans, and communicate lessons learned through safety alerts and toolbox talks.
  • Training and Development: Lead SHEA training strategies, develop and deliver briefings, and ensure all team members are competent in HSEMS compliance and SHEA best practices.
  • Continuous Improvement and Best Practices: Drive continuous improvement in SHEA standards, incorporate best practices from industry and partners, and lead Strategic Alliance improvement forums.
  • Support and Resource Management: Manage and coordinate the SHEA team, provide support to project and delivery teams, and ensure the right skills and capabilities are in place.
  • Culture and Wellbeing Promotion: Promote SHEA strategy on site, support mental health and wellbeing programs, and foster a culture of safety and environmental awareness across the Alliance.
