Description:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or GED certificate plus one year of clerical experience. Previous experience in a legal or law enforcement environment is preferred but not required. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Required to be bondable for Notary Public Commission. All applicants will be required to submit to a thorough background investigation prior to employment. Other minimum qualifications are at the discretion of the Houston County Sheriff.

  • Knowledge of Houston County policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Sheriff’s Office policies, rules, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the operation of basic office equipment.
  • Knowledge of general office practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of correct English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws pertaining to sex offender registration and notification.
  • Knowledge of law enforcement, criminal justice, and court terminology.
  • Ability to deal with people in a polite and diplomatic manner.
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations.
  • Ability to complete forms and type correspondence.
  • Ability to read and understand court records and documents, law changes and policy procedures.
  • Ability to interact efficiently with the office of the courts and provide information in a professional manner.
  • Ability to work independently without close supervision.
  • Ability to maintain confidential and/or investigative materials.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to travel and attend seminars and training when required.
  • Ability to articulate, with care and clarity, the Sheriff’s Office position on issues, which may be sensitive.
  • Ability to make decisions quickly and in accordance with policy and regulations.
  • Ability to deal with a wide range of persons, including situations in which individuals may be upset over some issue involved with the Houston County Sheriff’s Office activities and policies.
