Responsibilities:

WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING

As a Shift Engineer, you will be responsible for assisting in all areas of the hotel’s interior and exterior, via general maintenance work. You will be responsible for the efficient repair of all defects reported during your shift. You will be dealing with electrical, sewage, plumbing, heating, and lighting issues and will ensure that they are maintained in good working order and that any defects are corrected promptly. You will be guest-focused by consistently delivering excellent service with an informed, friendly, and effective approach.

THE DUTIES

  • Have thorough knowledge of the operation of all plant, boiler, air conditioning, and heating equipment in the hotel and ensure it is in working order.
  • Ensuring the hotel is both safe and functional for our guests, by conducting regular checks.
  • To prioritise and complete all jobs according to departmental standards and within an appropriate timeframe and where this is not possible to ensure that guests and relevant managers are informed.
  • Supporting the preventative maintenance and methodical testing of rooms and equipment, including plumbing, carpentry, painting, decorating, and electrical work.
  • Ensuring that the appearance of the hotel’s public and back-of-house areas is maintained.
  • To be fully conversant with the hotel fire and emergency procedures.
  • Whilst on shift duty, perform regular walks of the public areas and guest corridors to ensure that all lights are in working order.
  • Checking all maintenance stocks on a regular basis, ordering appropriate stocks when necessary to maintain continuity of service to all other departments.
  • Respond to maintenance-related call-outs when required.
  • To follow C.O.S.H.H. regulations, in particular, the storage of hazardous substances.
  • General maintenance tasks.
  • Ensure that appropriate files are maintained, and resources kept for future reference.
  • Complete daily reports outlining work undertaken for the day.
  • Being fully aware of and strictly observing Health Safety, Fire Safety, and Security policies and procedures.
  • Checking fire alarm systems on a weekly basis and keeping all reports in the Fire Manual
  • Ensure that all key and security procedures are strictly followed.
