Job Summary: The Shipping & Receiving Supervisor is responsible for the effective and efficient delivery of duties and responsibilities as outlined below in accordance with AGS’ cultural priorities. The duties and responsibilities described are not a comprehensive list. The scope of the job may change as necessitated by business demands and other considerations.

DESIRED SKILL & ABILITY

  • Secondary courses, College or University in Logistics or equivalent professional experience
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably automotive in Supply Chain Department
  • Ideally has 2 or more years supervisory experience, responsible for warehousing/logistics in a manufacturing environment.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills are required.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with customer systems (GM Supply Power, GMCCA, CLIPS, Turbo, etc) would be an asset
  • Knowledge of MRP systems with material planning experience
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety Legislation and experience administering collective agreements would be an asset.
  • A demonstrated understanding of inventory management principles and practices as well as superior analytical, planning, and problem-solving skills.
  • A demonstrated ability to operate PC based software.
  • APICS certification would be an asset.

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Materials Superintendent, the Shipping/Receiving Supervisor is responsible for, but not limited to, ensuring storage and timely shipment of finished goods to customers and sub-contractors. Responsible for managing the receipt and initial disposition of all incoming materials and deliveries (raw material, in-process parts, containers etc.). Responsible for supervising and coaching employees (Material handlers, Quality Inspectors, Production Associates) to achieve goals and maintain established standards of safety, customer service, productivity, and good housekeeping. Deliver on commitments made, treat people at all levels fairly and with respect. Responds to employees concerns in a timely manner (general issues, safety concerns, grievances, etc.)

Responsible for:

  • maintaining the Technical System Procedures and Instructions within their department.
  • the scheduling and assigning of daily duties of all employees in the department and reviews completed for work conformance to standards.
  • the coordination of all service parts shipments.
  • completing and distributing all required reports in a timely manner (shipping variances, short shipments, attendance tracking, overtime sheets, etc.).
  • Prepares shipping log (manual).
  • communicating relevant information to employees (customer related, quality, safety, etc.) by developing proper communication methods.
  • Interface directly with customers to communicate delivery status as may be required. Dispatches all transportation for outbound freights, as required by our customers, and their consigned carrier, to meet our ship windows, and for any miscellaneous shipments required by any department issued through the Materials department.
  • accuracy of all shipping information on all shipping documents including QAD (AGSs ERP system) generated packing slips for finished goods shipments, customer’s paperwork, invoices, and S-Shippers.
  • the timeliness of all Advanced Shipping Notifications to all customers.
  • ensure that the proper packaging is used on all finished goods shipments, as per the packaging information in the QAD systems and packing slip. If there is any deviation, that it is authorized by the Materials Superintendent.
  • ensure all shipments that leave the plant have a valid purchase order on the paperwork, unless authorized by the Materials Superintendent.
  • Coordination of Supplier pickups with the transportation company.
  • Ensures that all returnable containers are stored properly in their designed areas at all times.
  • ensure all truck drivers follow plant safety rules, trailers are properly docked prior to loading.
  • providing clear and specific performance feedback. Develop others and improve employee’s performance through coaching, training, and development activities.
  • Conducting employee training.
  • Correcting substandard acts or conditions.
  • Ensures that when disciplinary action is required, it is carried out in accordance with the collective agreement and procedures/policies.
  • Performing employee safety observations on performance and commending employee health and safety performance.
  • Develops employees by ensuring that they receive training in the areas of equipment, safety and any other areas that will help them to excel in their assignments.
  • Performing workplace inspections. Responsible for recognizing and rectifying unsafe working conditions by performing inspections of their department(s).
  • Conducting information sessions (safety talks, staff meetings, tail gate meetings).
  • maintaining safe working conditions and practices to ensure the safety of all employees. Ensures employees know how to perform each job assigned to them in an efficient manner and that they are fully aware of the correct and safe way to operate their equipment. Ensures employees are instructed on the use and comply with Company standards on the use of personal protective equipment. Responsible for recognizing and rectifying unsafe working conditions, maintains excellent housekeeping in the department by performing regular inspections of their department(s). Ensures that a proper investigation of any accident is completed and reported in a timely manner. Ensure the Standards of Section 27 and 28 of the OHSA are met.
