Description:
We are looking for an experienced and highly organized Shop Lead for our afternoon shift in our structural steel fabrication facility. The Shop Lead will oversee daily operations, ensuring work is completed efficiently and safely. This role involves coordinating the activities of the shop floor, managing the team, and ensuring the high quality and timely production of fabricated steel components.
JOB SUMMARY:

The Shop Lead will oversee daily operations, ensuring work is completed efficiently and safely. This role involves coordinating the activities of the shop floor, managing the team, and ensuring the high quality and timely production of fabricated steel components.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in welding, fabrication, or manufacturing is preferred.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in structural steel fabrication, with at least 1-2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Strong understanding of fabrication processes, welding, and blueprint reading.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in a fabrication or manufacturing environment.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to operate and supervise the use of fabrication equipment (cutting machines, welding machines, etc.).
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $25.00-$30.00 per hour
Expected hours: 44 per week

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Team Supervision & Leadership:
- Lead and supervise a team of fabricators, welders, and shop personnel during the afternoon shift.
- Ensure the team follows all safety protocols, quality standards, and production timelines.
- Monitor individual and team performance, providing guidance and support as needed.
- Schedule and assign tasks to shop floor employees based on priorities and workload.
- Foster a positive and productive work environment by motivating the team and promoting collaboration.
- Production & Quality Control:
- Oversee the fabrication of structural steel components, ensuring all work meets project specifications and industry standards.
- Ensure all fabricated materials are accurately measured, cut, welded, and assembled according to blueprints and engineering drawings.
- Perform quality checks on completed work to ensure high-quality standards and address any issues promptly.
- Coordinate with the project managers and engineering team to ensure all materials and products meet client and regulatory requirements.
- Inventory & Materials Management:
- Monitor inventory levels of raw materials (steel, welding consumables, etc.) and ensure the shop is adequately stocked for production.
- Work with the purchasing department to place orders for required materials or supplies.
- Ensure that tools, equipment, and machinery are in good working condition and report any issues for maintenance or repair.
- Safety & Compliance:
- Enforce safety procedures and regulations, ensuring that all employees are properly trained in safety practices.
- Conduct regular safety meetings, inspections, and audits to ensure compliance with safety standards and OSHA regulations.
- Address any safety hazards or concerns immediately and implement corrective actions to prevent accidents.
- Production Scheduling & Reporting:
- Coordinate with management to establish production schedules and ensure the shop meets deadlines for projects.
- Track the progress of work and report on production status, including any delays or obstacles that may affect timelines.
- Maintain accurate records of production, labor hours, and any issues that arise during the shift.
- Training & Development:
- Provide on-the-job training to new hires and ensure the team is proficient with the tools, machinery, and processes used in structural steel fabrication.
- Help identify areas for skill development and recommend training programs to improve team performance and efficiency.
- Troubleshooting & Problem Solving:
- Assist with troubleshooting issues that arise during the fabrication process and provide solutions to keep projects on track.
- Address production delays, equipment malfunctions, and other challenges with proactive solutions.
- Communicate effectively with the day shift lead, management, and other departments to ensure a smooth handover of work and the continuity of production.
- Collaborate with other shifts to ensure that goals and expectations are aligned and met.
