Description:
Total Safety is looking for an Shop Technician to add to their safety conscious team. The alky technician does QA/QC of various breathing air and fall protection equipment i.e., tripods, winches, srl’s, HP Manifolds, Regulators, etc. Also QA/QC of fire extinguisher. Maintain shop machinery and equipment in excellent working order. Keep facility clean organized and in compliance with safety standards. Assist in maintaining the flow of work at the shop as requested. Assists in the organization and placement of materials and finished goods. Keeps grounds neat and orderly and perform routine maintenance for the facility.
Work under the Air Shop Manager as needed.

Responsibilities:
- QA/QC of various breathing air and fall protection equipment i.e., tripods, winches, srl’s, HP Manifolds, Regulators, etc. Also QA/QC of fire extinguishers.
- Clean and test SCBA
- Clean and test hoses
- Clean and test manifolds
- Clean and test regulators
- Any other shop related duties as needed.
- Safety: Maintaining a safe work environment is the most important responsibility for every employee. Wear PPE as required. Observe all applicable safety rules, regulations, and instructions.
- Mechanical: Assist in mechanical maintenance and repair as requested. Service and clean shop equipment to maintain equipment usability. Replace worn parts as necessary. Use lock out tag out procedures to separate any non-working equipment. Refurbish and repair rental equipment as instructed to maintain it in excellent working condition and promote the Total Safety image in the field.
- Fabrication: Assist Welder/Fabricator Specialists with welding as requested. Participate in pipe and plate fabrication, prepare of materials, operate equipment and machinery, and paint.
- Maintenance: Clean and organize shop daily. Move materials, equipment, boxes, and furniture as requested. Replace light bulbs, air filters etc. as they need service or in accordance with manufacturer instructions. Keep eye wash stations clean, medicine cabinets stocked and perform required inspections for fire extinguishers etc. As supplies are purchased work with the Safety to keep MSDS books up to date. Recommend necessary expenditures and upgrades to keep the shop functioning at its best.
- Yard: Keep yard organized to maximize effective use of space. Assist in cost effective disposal of outdated equipment, materials, and scrap. Dispose of non-usable parts and materials in accordance with Company protocols. Assist in recycling, and waste disposal as requested.
- Other: Building and grounds maintenance oversight. Assist in records management and retrieval as requested. Move furniture as requested. Get supplies as necessary. Replace light bulbs & general building maintenance.
- Problem Resolution: Routine problems and schedule interruptions are handled throughout the day.
- Performance: Perform all assigned duties and functions in accordance with instructions. Obey Company rules and regulations. Effectively work with a wide variety of people on a daily basis.
Qualifications
Education: High School diploma or GED.
Experience: Experience in an industrial shop environment.
Required Licenses or Specific Training: Must have a valid driver’s license from state of residence and valid proof of vehicle insurance. Must possess good driving record and be insurable for Total Safety vehicle insurance while driving company truck.
Other Required Skills, Knowledge or Abilities: Must be self-motivated, flexible and able to meet deadlines. Must demonstrate ability to work in a team environment and willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities.
Interpersonal Communications: Ability to understand directions and communicate effectively with other employees. Must remain amiable and able to work under pressure. Must use professional language while working.
Physical Demands
Good physical fitness is necessary to perform this job. Heavy lifting may be required (up to 60 pounds with assistance), bending, stooping and other stressful physical activity is often required. The incumbent is regularly required to sit, walk, talk, and hear. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus. There are a number of deadlines associated with this position, which may cause significant mental and physical stress.
Work Environment
The work performed by Total Safety is dangerous. Our drug and alcohol use policy is zero tolerance and includes random drug testing. Every employee has stop work authority. This means that if any employee deems an area or situation is dangerous and unsafe, they have the authority and obligation to stop all work without repercussion in that area until the location’s safety authority declares it clear and safe. Failure to follow appropriate safety protocol is grounds for immediate termination.
Work is typically performed in the shop, which is a hazardous environment. Safety considerations include but are not limited to electrical, heat and fire, mechanical hazards, radiation, fumes and deposits, noise, equipment operation, heavy materials moving, and working in close quarters, working at great heights, and driving hazards. The employee will be required to attend a number of classes and seminars.
Reporting Relationships
Complexity of Duties and Decisions: Work consists of procedures and tasks where basic mechanical ability is required. An awareness of personal safety requirements and the safety of others is necessary. Effective time management and organization skills are required.
Authority: Acts under the direction of the Production Manager to perform assigned tasks. Regularly serves as a resource to others. Works in compliance with all safe work practices, policies and procedures.
