Primary objective
The Prisoner Buys / Vending officer is responsible for the efficient and economic daily operational requirements of the
Correctional Centre Shop, Vending Machines and Stock held in the PRONTO system, incorporating order, issue, receipt and
dispatch of items in the facility. PRONTO is a retail software system used within Darwin Correctional Centre for prisoner
purchases.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Supporting the Buys / Vending Officer with all elements of the Shop and Vending including receiving and delivering
goods, monitoring stock lines and registering incoming requests.
2. Assist the industries officer with the work orders to the prisoner workers, providing sufficient guidance and training.
3. Ensure the DCP warehouse and vending machines are sufficiently stocked and ready to be purchased.
4. All remote buys ordered through the kiosks by prisoners are picked, packed, processed and distributed in an efficient
manner and in accordance with the documented schedule.
5. Acceptance of deliveries from vendors and ensure that goods supplied match the invoice/delivery docket and enter
stock received into PRONTO.
6. The Warehouse is kept neat and tidy, ensuring that good work health and safety practices are adopted and implemented.
7. Investigate refund requests satisfying all reasonable measures are taken to ensure validity of request and process as
appropriate, seeking approval where required.
8. Contribute positively to NT Correctional Industries and promote a high level of customer focused service, leading by
example.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated high level interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
2. Proven ability to effectively complete a wide range of shop support functions including maintaining the electronic stock
management system PRONTO.
3. High level of communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively across all levels in custodial, non-
uniformed, professionals, prisoners and the general public.
4. Proven ability to work in a cross cultural environment and contribute to and work as part of a diverse professional team
and other staff.
5. A working knowledge and understanding of standard office software programs such as the Microsoft Word Suite of
applications, mainframe applications, PRONTO and the operation of office equipment or the ability to quickly obtain.
6. A sound understanding of customer service focused delivery and experience in providing a professional and efficient
service.
