SHORE SKIPPER JOB VACANCY IN SALDANHA BAY.

A renowned JSE Listed company is looking for an “Shore Skipper” to join their team on a full-time permanent basis for their offices in Saldanha.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum Grade 12. A post matric qualification will be an advantage.
  • Pre sea certificate, short- or long-range radio certificate will be advantageous.
  • At least 3 years’ experience within the fishing industry.
  • Microsoft Office (Microsoft Excel; Word; Outlook).
  • Ability to communicated fluently in English and Afrikaans
  • Good organizational skills with high attention to detail.
  • The ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Must be reliable and trustworthy.
  • Problem solver who is able to work well under pressure.
  • Must be willing to work shifts, overtime, and weekends as is operationally required.
  • Valid Code 8 Drivers License

Responsibilities:

  • Daily communication with the relevant stakeholders – Skippers; Fishing Operations Manager and other departments.
  • Provide information regarding vessel catches to the relevant production departments to ensure they can plan effectively.
  • Regular communication with the jetty supervisors on progress of offloading of the vessels
  • Assist with general technical maintenance work on the Jetty.
  • Responsible for all administrative tasks that relates to the vessels.
  • Ensure catch reports are sent to the Fishing Operations Manager and Finance Department
  • Ensure that safety standards are met on the Jetty.
  • Ensure that employees understand the safe handling of equipment.
  • Assist in doing monthly safety inspections and attend safety meetings
