Job Description
We are searching for a experienced Signalling Design Engineer to join us here at AECOM to undertake the role of Contractors Responsible Engineer to review, verify and/or lead the production of signalling design. You will join a dedicated signalling design team, as well as provide guidance and leadership to staff within their and other teams.
With a comprehensive understanding of the technical and business aspects of the rail-signalling industry, the Signalling Designer CRE will lead the signalling design working in multi-disciplinary project teams, providing strong technical support to the discipline in terms of production, verification and mentoring.
Support the Signalling Design Manager / Associate Director with additional duties as required such as, progress/programme reporting, tendering new works, production of guidance notes etc. They will have strong knowledge of signalling design and interlocking principles, Network Rail standards, components and fabrication methods as well as hands-on experience managing the production, checking and approval of feasibility, outline and/or detailed signalling principles design and calculations.

Engagement with other staff necessary to discharge these duties will be as follows:

  • Project and Quality Delivery: Project Manager, Project Engineer
  • Staff Development: Professional Head of Discipline & Signalling Design Manager
  • Client Engagement: Signalling Design Manager, Work Winning team, Project Manager
  • Resource Management: Project Manager, Signalling Design Manager

Here’s what we’re looking for

  • Holder of 1.1.550 Signalling Principles Designer, 7.8.110E Engineering Manager (Design) or 7.8.220E Senior Engineering Manager (Design) licence, and/or registered with professional engineering institution (IRSE, IET etc.) at IEng or CEng.
  • Experience of acting as Signalling Design CRE
  • Experience of delivering signalling design as part of multi-disciplinary rail systems projects
  • Commitment to professional development and retaining the highest standard of signalling design technical skills
  • The ability to be able to work in a number of differing consultancy environments and situations across the project lifecycle
  • Maintain good communication and cooperation with all project team members, with the ability to communicate at all levels and the demonstrated ability to have a senior role within a team
  • Understanding and experience of working within project budgets whilst maintaining the delivery of high-quality outputs
  • Commitment to delivery to internal and external clients, with the view towards timeliness, reliability, safety and accuracy of completed tasks
  • Experienced in the use of all MS Office packages
  • Demonstrated knowledge of UK signalling principles
  • Excellent knowledge of signalling systems of all generations
  • Understanding of CDM regulations

Additional Information

Responsibilities:

HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Lead the production of deliverables in accordance with client and governance requirements for signalling and associated projects
  • Provide Expertise: Review and lead the delivery of signalling projects to deliver to defined timescales. Undertake the Bid preparation to support/lead tendering of new works
  • Mentor junior members of the signalling discipline
  • Ensure Quality: Maintain knowledge of current practices, processes, standards and emerging technologies in relation to the signalling discipline
  • Share knowledge: Familiarity with multiple interlocking types such as RRI, E10k, mechanical, SSI etc. Knowledge of railway systems and related operating practices, along with their key interactions with other railway assets
  • Collaborate: Partake in lessons learned reviews and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement
