MINIMUM FORMAL EDUCATION/TRAINING:

  • Completion of a Community College course in a related discipline is required.
  • Administrative training and or certificate required.

EXPERIENCE:

  • One year of directly related experience is required.
  • 2-3 years’ experience in an academic and clinical training environment preferred.
  • Experience supporting learners in an exam or high-stakes type of scenario required.
  • Experience in a fast-paced environment is required.
  • Demonstrated history of computer and technology skills, and ongoing learning required.
  • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office, ability to learn new operating systems required.
  • Intermediate computer and technological skills (understanding basic network setups/structures, providing software support to users, following troubleshooting frameworks, working with IT professionals to relay issues and implement troubleshooting directions, familiarity with AV equipment, comfort navigating databases and web-based apps) required.
  • Past purchasing experience as an asset.
  • Past IT and AV experience is an asset.
  • An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • Ability to discuss computer, IT, and networking systems with an intermediate level of knowledge required.

  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of exam and private materials required.
  • Certain exams may require confidentiality agreements and non-disclosure agreements to be signed.
  • Ability to navigate University structures in support of effective administration required.
  • A satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
    This position is hiring two candidates.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepares simulation and debriefing areas, patient care simulators, scenario props, supplies, and equipment to support the clinical and skills objectives and specifications identified by instructional staff.
  • Serves as a simulator operator (“driving” the Mannequin) by running scenarios with faculty instructors, ensuring that the facility and equipment are set-up for teaching sessions. Safely works with medical equipment. Prepares/sets up medical equipment in the simulation labs, including but not limited to ventilators, monitors/defibrillators, anaesthesia machines, ultrasound machines, and surgical microscopes. Troubleshoots issues as required.
  • Safely works with and handles medical supplies including but not limited to sharps (needles, scalpels) and surgical instruments.
  • Serves as a resource for faculty utilizing simulation. Assist instructors with the implementation of scenarios; may deliver information to an ongoing scenario or play the voice of the mannequin (patient) from the booth.
  • Assists users in identification of equipment and supplies required for their program delivery. Makes recommendations as to the appropriate use of simulation resources as well as options available to support meeting their learning objectives; ensures that session set-up requirements are documented for future sessions.
  • Completes the set-up, preparation, and tear down of synthetic, virtual, and other trainers.
  • Completes the set-up, stocking, preparation, and safe disposal of biological samples including animal and human cadaveric parts used in the Skills Lab.
  • Advises the Purchasing Coordinator of deficiencies in supply quality and quantity as well as new requirements. Assists with maintain storage areas orderly and properly stocked.
  • Responsible for the cleanliness of lab space including cleaning and stocking lab instruments, work surfaces, and related equipment. Routinely cleans glassware, instruments, and equipment and does basic service and maintenance work on laboratory equipment.
  • Ensures instructor and student compliance with lab policies, procedures, and safety precautions.
  • Understands the use and operation of different simulator technologies ranging from anatomic models to task trainers to screen-based simulations to full body patient simulators and virtual reality surgical simulators.
  • Assembles task trainer simulators and prepares for use.
  • Powers on high-fidelity human-patient simulators and associated peripherals. Controls pre-programmed and “on-the-fly” scenarios for high-fidelity human-patient simulators with the help of a medical professional; may edit trends or enter pre-programmed scenarios to mannequin software.
  • Resolves technical problems with systems and equipment through searches in technical manuals and/or consultation with supplier technical support staff.
  • Completes equipment assembly, minor repairs and/or adjustments or more specialized repairs (e.g. to Simulation Mannequins, task trainers, etc.)
  • Conducts preventative/routine maintenance processes and Simulation/Medical Equipment including tracking and recording of all maintenance conducted.
  • Instructs faculty users and students in the operation, safe handling, and use of simulation equipment, medical equipment, and trainers.
  • Supports the exam day activities.
  • Sets up, configures, and controls cameras (pan, till, zoom), pagers, recorders, and video routing for the main control room, observation area, debriefing rooms and individual rooms.
  • Uses custom AV interface to select recording sources, audio sources, and record video to capture learner performance for evaluation and debriefing.
  • Conducts initial troubleshooting of specialized audio/video software, provides application support based on discussion with the Simulation Software Vendor (EMS). Refers more complex issues related to server access to the internal IT Department.
  • Conducts troubleshooting of the specialized software and hardware related to Simulation Mannequins and virtual simulators, refers more complex issues to the equipment vendor for resolution, and coordinates software and hardware upgrades with the IT Department to maintain functionality as directed by manufacturer support.
  • Provides technical support with established guidelines/scripts for computer-based multimedia systems and their components, including operation of digital cameras, video cameras, audio/video mixer, digital/analog converter, and LCD monitors, digital video capture devices, and microphones. Refers more complex issues to IT or A/V technology group for resolution.
  • Powers on laptop and desktop computers. Navigates through the Windows, and Mac OS X operating systems. Conducts basic troubleshooting of computer hardware and general office software. Refers more complex issues to IT Specialists and follows up to resolve issues in a timely manner
