Job Description:
Mountain Gateway Community College (MGCC) is a two-year public institution of higher education and one of 23 community colleges in Virginia. The college is supported by the Commonwealth of Virginia; the counties of Alleghany, Bath, Botetourt (northern portion) and Rockbridge; the cities of Buena Vista, Covington, and Lexington; and the town of Clifton Forge. MGCC is looking for a dedicated Single Stop/ADA Coordinator to join our team. This position is essential in supporting students to reach their full potential and make informed educational decisions. The Coordinator will also serve as the primary point of contact for students facing non-academic challenges. Responsibilities include:
- Serve students with non-academic barrier needs, such as food insecurity, housing insecurity, assist with government benefits such as SNAP, WIC, etc.
- Assist with Roadrunner Cafe Organization.
- Assist in building community relationships and expand on community partnerships through attendance of meetings or visits.
- Assist students with screenings in the Single Stop database and manage cases, including keeping case notes.
- Coordinate with advisors, coaches, faculty, and staff as needed.
- Reach out to students within 24 hours for wrap-around support services.
- Reporting as necessary.
- Coordinate with Community Partners in assisting students with services.
- Attend meetings with appropriate community partners.
- Coordinate with students and provide assistance for Great Expectations program.
- Serve as the College’s Disability Services Coordinator and ADA Compliance Officer
- Determine eligibility for services in accordance with section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the ADA and other regulations.
- Maintain accurate and updated records of all students receiving accommodations that are consistent with college practices and federal and state laws.
- Work closely with faculty to provide accommodations to students with disabilities.
- Be aware of FERPA, HIPPA, and other information sharing laws and maintain an understanding of how they impact policies and procedures.
- Attend trainings and workshops as needed to stay abreast of changes.
- Attend various outreach functions in the service region to promote MGCC to students with disabilities. Assist with ILEAP program coordination.
- Assist with referring students that request counseling services to appropriate CSB
- Attend applicable state-wide meetings and professional development opportunities related to career and transition services.
- Serve on applicable committees at MGCC.
- Assist Associate Vice President/Chief Student Affairs Officer as needed.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
KSA’s
- Excellent computer skills; Team player; Command of English language both oral and written; Knowledge and experience with coaching, advising, and/or counseling; Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong interpersonal skills to help engage, provide support, and motive students
- Ability to develop individualized academic plans with students that will lead to program completion
- Academic and career counseling skills; Effective problem solving skills
- Knowledge of specific needs of underserved populations in order to attain educational success
- Ability to work with students and identify risk factors for academic success; Ability to work with college faculty and staff in support of student success
- Strong communication skills; proficient in use of Microsoft Office; strong presentation skills
Education
- Associate’s degree in Education, Psychology, Counseling, or related field or considerable higher education and/or professional work experience
Additional Considerations:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, Counseling, or related field is preferred or considerable higher education and/or professional work experience
- Experience working in educational setting (higher education preferred); knowledge of transfer process for community college students
