Description:

In line with the recent ward establishment reviews Gallery Ward 2 is pleased to welcome applications for a Band 6 sister/charge nurse. The successful candidate will be required to work closely with the Ward Manager, Modern Matron, Consultants, and Support Mentors and Ward nursing team.
The Band 6 sister/charge nurse is a key member of the leadership team and will role model the behaviours required for the Pathway to Excellence of Leadership (visible clinical capability), Compassionate Leadership, Quality of delivery, audit and records, Well-Being (Self Care and Psychological Safety) Professional Development (of self and others) in clinical supervision, mentoring and coaching, and Shared Decision Making engaging all staff in the educational strategy and delivery.
The Band 6 Clinical Nurse delivers the clinical and managerial leadership in line with CQC, NHS, Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Trust and Royal College of Nursing under the guidance of the Band 7 Ward Manager. They will provide the operational learning and training required to meet the unmet educational needs derived from incidents, patient feedback, compliments and complaints. The role will be interesting, varied, challenging but also extremely rewarding.
In line with the Trust Vision to provide the “Best Care for Everyone…” the successful applicant will be expected to lead the team with the support of their Band 7 and other Band 6 colleagues to deliver safe, effective and person centred care. Applicants must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well a passion for improvement. They will need to be calm and resilient with the ability to deal with challenging situations, providing support to more junior members of the team. To lead in the delivery and supervision of patient care for the clinical area ensuring assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of a high standard of core nursing care.
Applicants must demonstrate a compliance with professional values in line with the NMC Code and act as an appropriate role model at all times. As well as being able to take charge of a busy and dynamic department the successful applicant will also have excellent clinical skills and be able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team. Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to development and education, always seeking to provide evidence based person-centred care in line with both national and local guidelines.
The successful applicant will have an awareness of workforce planning and be willing to act up in the absence of a more senior colleague.

Gallery Ward 2 has a very dedicated nursing and medical team. Patients are admitted to the ward from the AMU or emergency department via the Frailty assessment unit, and from other ward areas cross site. As a ward we are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated Registered Adult nurse with visionary leadership skills to join our dynamic, closely knit team. You should ideally have a wealth of experience in Care of the elderly & Frailty and experience as a lead nurse will be beneficial. Previous experience as a Band 5 nurse in the specialty would be advantageous. The ability to lead the team in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care with the multidisciplinary team is mandatory.
You will be expected to identify and bid for externally funded clinical and leadership courses through identification of skills gaps and the provision of continuous professional development for all team members.
The Band 6 sister /charge nurse will help drive improvements for safety and quality and provide the training required to meet the unmet educational needs from incidents, datix, patient feedback, compliments and complaints.
The Band 6 sister/charge nurse is accountable to the Ward Manager and Matron for educational assurance and will be required to use ESR and Health Roster to facilitate competency records.
To communicate effectively especially where patient ability to do so is compromised and ability to disseminate contentious and delicate information appropriately. To deliver and receive information which may cause emotional distress to all parties.
To manage and record complex clinical and management information on the appropriate IT Systems/documentation in accordance the policy guidelines and data protection act.
To lead and deliver safe care within a challenging and changing clinical environment, using equipment and resources safely and as appropriate. To provide clinical leadership that inspires and motivates others to work with the Matron/ward management team ensuring that appropriate staff working in the ward environment have the knowledge and skills to provide expert care to the acutely ill patients.
To administer medication and treatment within Procedure for the Ordering, Prescribing and Administration of Medication Guidelines.
Participate in mentorship and educational programmes for students, those new to the ward and other members of the team.
To adhere to all Trust policies and procedures and professional code of conduct.
To assist the Ward Manager and Matron in the implementation of policy and service development.
To undertake and support the Ward Manager and Matron in recruitment, retention and performance related issues, including being regularly responsible for the supervision and mentorship for unqualified/qualified staff and students.
Support Ward Manager and Matron for clinical area in the management of budgetary control and resource management including duty rotas and skill mix requirements.
To input and retrieve patient and staff information from computer based system and maintain accurate and contemporaneous patient records.
To respond to and junior staff members with patient and public involvement ensuring it is integrated into service delivery.
To liaise with other members of the team to ensure policies and protocols are in place to facilitate expert care of acutely unwell elderly patients.
To be actively involved in the setting up and maintaining of educational programmes that ensure advanced knowledge and skills amongst the nursing team
To actively participate in all aspects of the Trust clinical governance agenda through education, clinical guidelines, audit and research within the geriatric field and engage in quality improvements and assurance.

Qualifications
Essential
Registered Nurse (Adult) with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
Degree Qualified or equivalent level of study or experience
Evidence of a leadership/management course or willingness to undertake one.
Desirable
Additional relevant qualification at diploma/degree ideally in leadership or caring for the elderly
Teaching/Assessing Qualification
Recognised management course or equivalent level of skill gained through experience
