Description:

The Critical Care unit at The Christie is looking for the very best nurses to work within our cancer speciality and help maintain our excellent patient outcomes and patient experiences. Our CCU is only one of two level 3 critical care facility dedicated entirely to cancer patients in the United Kingdom.
This environment is challenging, exciting, supportive and actively facilitates the development of specialised skills. You will enjoy working as part of a highly skilled and motivated team to deliver excellent patient care. Our commitment to ongoing staff development and the support of a modern career framework is apparent through the variety of educational opportunities available and clinical support offered by our Practice Educator.
We aspire to be compassionate, supportive, personal and open; patient and family experience is central to everything we do. Therefore, together with solid clinical and technical skills, we expect a deep awareness of the special needs of our patients, along with the ability to support and care for them and their families throughout their stay.
You will have post registration experience in an acute hospital setting; hold a minimum three years experience working within a Critical Care setting– including holding a post graduate Level 3 qualification. You will be confident and competent in using the required skills to fulfill the role, together with a genuine interest to develop acute cancer care skills and the ability to uphold our team’s values. Additionally, previous experience/qualifications in oncology are desirable although not essential.
The Christie is one of Europe’s leading cancer centres, treating over 60,000 patients a year. We are based in Manchester and serve a population of 3.2 million across Greater Manchester & Cheshire, but as a national specialist around 15% patients are referred to us from other parts of the country.
We provide radiotherapy through one of the largest radiotherapy departments in the world; chemotherapy on site and through 14 other hospitals; highly specialist surgery for complex and rare cancer; and a wide range of support and diagnostic services. We are also an international leader in research, with world first breakthroughs for over 100 years.
We run one of the largest early clinical trial units in Europe with over 300 trials every year. Cancer research in Manchester, most of which is undertaken on the Christie site, has been officially ranked the best in the UK.
