UGL’s utilities business undertakes essential design & construction services for critical infrastructure in the power and water sectors. Our end-to-end delivery ranges from transmission lines, switchyards, substations, electrical distribution through to water and wastewater treatment plants and water pipelines.
Our expertise includes the design, construct, commission, operate and maintain where our Utilities Team safely leads and delivers design & construct projects across Australia. Our project delivery extends to include short and long-term contracts either through self-performance works, working with Sub-contractors or through Joint Ventures. Our work spans from the engineering design through to structural, civil, electrical installation works and commissioning.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • A sound understanding and knowledge of construction principles in multi-discipline contracting environment.
  • A high level of business and commercial acumen backed by a sound ability to create, read and interpret budgets, financial statements and analyse variance reports.
  • Appropriate technical background with experience on multi-discipline complex projects with a background in Structural, Mechanical, Electrical engineering design, build & commission operating environment with scope
  • Minimum 5-7 years Project Engineering (or similar senior level) experience, from within Power/Water or general Industrial and/or Infrastructure industries
  • Experience in estimation costing for projects and working to a budget.
  • Previous experience on Transmission projects (Greenfields and Brownfields)
  • Applied knowledge of HSEQ

Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE

This key client-facing role oversees the Project site facilities, laydown teams, Stores, Plant Mechanic and supporting role to the Project Manager or Construction Manager to ensure that the work performed for any UGL Ltd client is successfully delivered and seen to be the finest in the industry. Customer relations are an essential key responsibility with an emphasis on development of sound business relationships.
Working closely with and under minimal guidance from the Project Manager or Construction manager, this customer focused role is responsible for planning and executing construction works for delivery to clients. A key responsibility is in managing site teams to accurately and timely deliver projects according to schedule, budget and scope. The role will also define the project’s objectives and oversee quality control throughout its life cycle.
This position has a focus on acquiring resources and coordinating efforts of team members, ensuring that customer needs are delivered in a safe, timely and efficient manner whilst ensuring a safe and effective operation of the project through sound communication, promotion of Safety and Quality Assurance, technical assistance and sound business practices such as commercial, compliance, procurement, human resources and financials.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure a safe working condition is present for all employees, contractors and visitors and act on suggestions for improvement.
  • Hold and participate in daily pre-start meetings and enforce disciplinary requirements.
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems such as job safety analysis, pre-work checklists, risk assessments and ITP’s and ensure that all employees, contractors and visitors wear appropriate PPE where appropriate.
  • Ensure the UGL Management System is implemented across the site, and any additional requirements of the WHS plan for the project. Actively monitor the works to ensure that critical risks are being addressed.
  • Proactively manage and oversee day-to-day operations during the project lifecycle, coordinating performance via Project Supervisors as necessary, to keep on top of all issues, progress, budget cost controls including variations and production controls ensuring that the project is undertaken in line with project financial target.
  • Review the resourcing requirements for the site to ensure the schedule, UGL way, WHS, QA and Environmental obligations are able to be achieved. Report any discrepancies or issues to the project manager/Construction Manager
  • Conduct project Post implementation Reviews (PIRs) and create recommendation reports in order to identify successful and unsuccessful project elements.
  • Provide leadership, direction, supervision and inspirational management to all team members (direct & indirect) as well as training and performance of team members.
