Description:

Crossness Sewage Treatment Works (STW) is one of Europe’s largest and most significant sewage treatment works, processing up to 600,000 cubic meters of wastewater daily. As a Lower Tier COMAH (Control of Major Accident Hazards) site, it carries additional health and safety responsibilities, requiring stringent compliance with complex regulations.
The site uniquely blends historic infrastructure—some of which dates back to the close of the American Civil War—with cutting-edge technology, including the OFWAT innovation scheme poised to revolutionize sludge processing across the UK.
Looking to the future, we plan to invest over £200 million in Crossness STW over the next decade. Additionally, the site generates nearly 750 MWh of renewable energy each week from biogas and wind power, contributing significantly to sustainable operations.
