QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics or other relevant technical degree. and 8+ years of relevant experience.
  • 6 years’ experience with RF satellite communication systems.
  • Experience with RF theory, antenna design/operation, testing and/or operating RF equipment.
  • Prior Supervisory experience.
  • Security clearance - this position requires the candidate to have an active Secret security clearance and to maintain the clearance thereafter.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Familiarity with NASA’s Tracking Data Relay Satellites
  • Knowledge of Linux operating systems are HIGHLY desired
  • Clear communication/presentation skills, technical/non-technical, written and oral.
  • Demonstrate high level of personal, ethical conduct.

Responsibilities:

RESPONSIBILITIES

We have an exciting opportunity for a Site Systems Engineer to join our team near La Plata, MD at the NASA Blossom Point Remote Station (BPRS). The System Engineer will be responsible for the Operations and Maintenance of BPRS in support of Space Relay (SR) Operations and satellite health/status. Serves as the Technical Point of Contact for SR Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering, and a liaison for departments at the White Sands Complex (WSC) and Guam Remote Station (GRS).

THIS POSITION WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:

  • Be a self-starter with leadership capabilities and execution of roles and responsibilities with little to no supervision.
  • Interface with NASA’s Space Relay program management teams and associated ground stations, as well as Goddard Space Flight Center personnel to ensure properly coordinated activities.
  • Have working knowledge of RF theory, and experience developing RF link budgets.
  • Interface with Peraton SR management at WSC, GRS, and Greenbelt to identify best practices and develop common and consistent processes or procedures for a satellite ground station.
  • Provide training to operations crew on the use of various test equipment to include Spectrum Analyzers, Oscilloscopes, Fiber OTDR’s and Power Meters.
  • Provide project management support with short turn-around projects; development of requirements, project plans, needs assessment, transition planning, and future looking roadmaps.
  • Direct the work and shift schedules of SATCOM Technicians, ensuring manning is available to support operations.
  • Plan, schedule and oversee all maintenance, engineering change work, and software/firmware upgrades.
  • Provide maintenance, testing, evaluation and operation of two-axis antenna systems used for Telemetry, Tracking and Control (TT&C) of active satellites.
  • Assist in the application of optical networks for deployment in challenging space applications, to include optical transmitters, receivers, high-power and low-noise optical amplifiers.
  • Develops and submits proposed changes for ground equipment improvements, i.e. HPA’s, upconverters, downconverters, or modems.
  • Reports on Operations performance, equipment status and status of work in progress.
  • Coordinates procedure development, site testing and ensures that all equipment is properly maintained.
  • Ensures BPRS Site Manager is kept apprised of all activities and issues.
  • Ensures compliance with all SN policies, reporting requirements, and direction.
