NorWest Co-op Community Health is looking for a Skill Development Worker for the NorWest Co-op Community Food Centre. The NorWest Community Food Centre is an initiative which offers a shared meal program, cooking, gardening, urban farm and advocacy programs that improve access to healthy food in a way that maintains dignity and builds community. We ask that applicants share our commitment to community development, food security and social justice.
The overall objective of the Skill Development Worker is to assist with development and delivery of community programs in the Inkster community. The Skill Development Worker will work in the NorWest Co-op Community Food Centre to assist with food access, food skills and engagement programs in the community. The Skill Development Worker will implement programs in response to community identified needs. The Skill Development worker will assist with such programs as Kids in the Kitchen, Community Meals, Chair Exercises, Farm Programs, Mind Your Food, Fruit and Vegetable Markets, and more. The Skill Development Worker will ensure goals and objectives of NorWest Co-op are incorporated into all programming. Evenings and weekends required.
QUALIFICATIONS
• High School Diploma is required • Experience in commercial food preparation required
- Experience with program delivery, especially in the youth, food-based or cultural programs
- Knowledge of nutritional issues an asset
- Customer service experience is an asset
- Experience working in a leadership capacity with volunteers and community members
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Empathetic, non-judgemental approach
- Ability to work well within an interdisciplinary team in a variety of settings
- Knowledge and experience with diverse cultures and economic backgrounds
- Safe Food Handlers training required
- Experience with social media
