POSITION DESCRIPTION

Sleep Technologists at Sickkids perform polysomnographic testing and therapeutic interventions under the supervision of the sleep lab director in the Sleep laboratory.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct sleep studies on patients aged 0-18, providing age specific care in the treatment, assessment, and education of neonatal, pediatric, and adolescent patients.
  • Perform Multiple Sleep Latency Tests (MSLT).
  • Perform routine positive airway pressure (PAP) interface fitting and desensitization.
  • Perform routine oxygen titrations.
  • Use TcCO2 and EtCO2 technology to determine hypoventilation.
  • Capillary blood gas sampling as necessary.
  • Collect, analyze and integrate patient information in order to identify and meet the patient-specific needs (physical/mental limitations, current emotional/physiological status regarding the testing procedure, pertinent medical/social history).
  • Implement appropriate interventions (including actions necessary for patient safety and therapeutic intervention such as positive airway pressure, oxygen administration, etc.)
  • Monitor data acquisition while monitoring study signal quality to ensure data is artifact-free and identifying, correcting and documenting artifact.
  • Document routine observations, including sleep stages and clinical events, behavioural changes, and other significant events in order to facilitate scoring and interpretation of PSG
  • Score sleep/wake stages as per AASM rules.
  • Score clinical events (eg. respiratory events, cardiac events, limb movements, arousals, etc.) as per AASM rules.
  • Data download of home therapy and interpretation.
  • Clean and disinfect equipment.
