Description:

SmartICE is looking to hire a Chief Financial Officer. Under the guidance of the CEO, the Chief Financial Officer will oversee all financial operations and compliance aspects for SmartICE. This strategic leadership role involves managing financial reporting, budgeting, and strategic planning while working closely with the Board of Directors, auditors, and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate will be committed to social impact and have a strong alignment with our mission and values.
SmartICE is an award-winning technological innovation for the North. SmartICE offers a suite of climate change adaptation tools that integrate Indigenous and local knowledge of ice with advanced data acquisition, remote monitoring and satellite mapping for ice travel safety. Our community-based services provide invaluable, data-driven insights into ice thickness and local ice travel conditions, in near real-time.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the preparation and presentation of financial reports, budgets, and statements for the CEO, Audit and Finance Committee, and Board of Directors.
  • Manage daily financial operations including invoicing, account classifications, and bank reconciliations.
  • Manage the business development, program management and strategic partnership team and operations.
  • Oversee SmartICE’s financial accounting, monitoring, and reporting systems.
  • Review and manage receivables and payables; ensure timely completion of monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Develop and maintain budget plans, analyze expenditures, and suggest cost reduction strategies.
  • Oversee payroll processes, including RRSP contributions and benefits administration.
  • Maintain and manage the SmartICE Foundation’s accounting system.
  • Build and sustain relationships with vendors, government partners, and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with the Business Development team to align financial strategies with organizational goals and review project costs.
  • Assist with annual audits and liaise with auditors throughout the year to ensure compliance with accounting policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records for government remittances, accounts receivable, and payroll transactions.
