Te Whatu Ora – Health New Zealand, Hauora a Toi Bay of Plenty is spread across a vast geographical area and centred across two hospitals based in Tauranga and Whakatāne. We serve a population of approximately 308,000 for the major population centres of Tauranga, Katikati, Te Puke, Whakatāne, Kawerau and Ōpōtiki. Te Whatu Ora Hauora a Toi Bay of Plenty is one of the Bay of Plenty’s largest employers with over 4500 staff.

We are looking to employ an SMO – Cardiologist to join the Cardiology service at Hauora a Toi Bay of Plenty. This is a fixed term vacancy to cover until permanent cardiologist arrives in September 2025. We are interested in applications from cardiologists with subspeciality skills in interventional cardiology however would also consider applications from cardiologists with other subspeciality skills which may fit within the service model. The cardiology service in the Bay of Plenty provides specialist cardiology services to the district population of approximately 275,000 people spread across the Bay of Plenty.
This position is based at Tauranga Hospital, a 359 bed Level 2 hospital, and will include acute and elective work. The service has two Cardiac Cath Labs based on the Tauranga Hospital campus. Te Whatu Ora Hauora Bay of Plenty has a second hospital site at Whakatane Hospital, which is a smaller level 2 hospital an hour south of Tauranga.
