Purpose:

  • To provide an efficient and effective Employee Relations Centre of Excellence service and provide an exceptional experience to People Business Partners and Line Managers.
  • To monitor labour legislation and stay abreast of changes to ensure full employment law compliance.
  • To build and sustain excellent relationships between management, employees, shop stewards and union officials.

Key Responsibilities:

Based in Johannesburg, the Senior Employee Relations Manager will:

  • Provide advisory & consultation services on ER matter across the OpCo.
  • Handle CCMA matters and takes ownership of all external dispute resolution processes.
  • Partner with Employee Relations Centre of Excellence to ensure that all employment law policies remain updated and relevant.
  • Partner with Heads of People, Project Managers and Leadership on all operating model, org design and change projects, creating an exceptional experience for project leads and affected staff.
  • Build and maintain excellent relationships between management, employees and unions.
  • Partner with preferred employment law attorneys to ensure a first class and cost-effective service to the business.
  • Partner with Employee Relations Centre of Excellence during wage negotiations, bringing the required expertise to conclude wage negotiations within mandate.
  • Manage Dispute and Grievance procedures.
  • Negotiate collective bargaining agreements with the union.
  • Conduct Employee relations training and development workshops to ensure that line managers are fully competent in the management of discipline and performance in the workplace.
  • Resource Management including the Employee Relations budget.

Education & Experience:

  • Post Graduate Employment Law or similar Qualification
  • Having graduated and practiced as a qualified labour lawyer would be advantageous
  • A minimum of 10 years Employment Law experience working on strategic people projects
  • Previous People Practitioner experience within a FMCG or manufacturing environment would be advantageous
  • Solid CCMA track record
  • Subject matter expert on Labour Relations Act and Basic Conditions of Employment Act, having demonstrated previous experience in facilitating Section 189 and Section 197 projects
  • Solid business acumen and exceptional problem-solving and negotiations skills
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to manage conflict effectively
  • Solid track record in having worked effectively with people from diverse, cross-cultural and multinational backgrounds.
  • Computer literacy skills - MS Office, Presentations - SAP would be advantageous
