Reporting to the Director of Employment & Social Enterprise, this position is responsible for the successful daily operation of two social enterprise programs - the woodshop and pre-construction programs. This position is responsible for supervising Enterprise Team Leader(s) and Coordinators and Pre-Construction Coordinators, their operations, and their teams. This includes ensuring that there is a safe, clean, and supportive environment for youth trainees, and ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation. This position is also responsible for overseeing activities in these social enterprise programs, including managing budgets, production schedules, quotes, and ensuring production targets are met. This position participates in the recruitment, hiring, performance management, and professional development of the Social Enterprise employees and youth trainees and ensures all staff are working in line with YOU’s Mission, Vision, Values, policies, and procedures.
The Social Enterprise Production Manager fulfills vital social benefit goals for YOU and our community by providing training and employment opportunities to London & Middlesex youth.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • This position requires post-secondary education in a related field, cabinetry, and / or millwork certification program.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience supervising or managing a woodshop facility with multiple direct reports, teaching / instructing woodshop skills at a school / college / institute or manufacturing plant experience or a combination thereof.
  • Experience in woodshop / cabinet making production and assembly and millwork design and creation is required (operate cutting, sanding, edge banding, boring, and gluing machinery/tools, and staining products/tools).
  • The individual must have an exceptional understanding of carpentry and millwork design, assembly techniques, and methods of installation, including extensive CNC wood machine operator experience and licensing.
  • The successful candidate will be able to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, design specifications and working instructions.
  • The individual must have effective leadership, communication, listening, problem-solving, time management, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Computer knowledge requirements include Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word); experience using sketch design (required) and project management software are a strong asset.

Responsibilities:

  • Directly supervise, appraise, and evaluate Team Leaders & Coordinators
  • Provide supervision support to staff working under the direct reports
  • Participate in the hiring recommendations for other social enterprise program employees
  • Performance manages staff members in consultation with Enterprise Team Leader & Coordinators, including disciplinary issues and termination of staff
  • Identify training needs of staff and develop a plan to address these needs
  • Oversee the administration, training, operation, and production at the Woodshop Facility
  • Ensure that standards of maintenance, safety, and cleanliness of physical space are maintained
  • Ensure all infection control measures are in place and are being maintained
  • Manage the incoming inventory supplies
  • Develop resolutions when conflicting interests arise when operation projects interfere with services
  • Develop and manage the social enterprise program budgets addressing variances throughout the year to ensure budget targets are met
  • Monitor equipment, inventory, and supplies and determine when purchases are required to maintain the required levels
  • Ensures that purchase orders are completed and coded to proper budget
  • Resolve issues with payroll that are identified by staff
  • Set priorities, goals, and standards for production
  • Manage the development, planning, implementation, and evaluation of social enterprise training programs
  • Identify service trends, gaps in service, product quality control standards, and implement program and policy changes to address
  • Responsible for the decision to overturn high census protocol
  • Manage cross department service issues and ensure the resolution
  • Maintain effective communication with Enterprise Team Leader(s) and Coordinators and/or other management staff to address issues or concerns of staff
  • Maintain positive relationships with existing customers and network to build YOU’s customer base
  • Participate in weekly team meetings, management meetings, and YOU All Staff meetings
  • Participate as a member of the management team
  • Oversee the practices and procedures of daily operations
  • Other related duties as required
  • Participate in health and safety training including WHMIS and apply this knowledge in the workplace
  • Reporting any violations of the Health and Safety Act,the regulations, or the existence of any hazard
  • Ensure all workplace incidents are reported in a timely manner in accordance with legislation and YOU policies and procedures for workplace injuries and incidents
