DESCRIPTION

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Cubico Sustainable Investments based in Brisbane, Sydney or Melbourne as Social Performance, Community and Partnerships Director. As the Social Performance, Community and Partnerships Director, you will lead a team of professionals working to deliver positive outcomes across a large and growing development portfolio of renewable energy projects. This is a key role in the business which has responsibility for setting the strategic direction of the intersection of these vital infrastructure projects and the community and stakeholders that they interact with.
It is anticipated that this role will have leadership over 4-8 staff members in the fields of community engagement, stakeholder engagement, community benefit and partnerships, land holder and neighbour engagement, strategy and branding and communications. This role will involve collaboration with Cubico subject matter experts both in project development (development, planning, environment, and GIS) Construction, Operations, O&E (Commercialisation), Engineering, Grid, Resource, Design, Legal and Finance.
The successful candidate will report to the Head of Development and manage a team working on social performance, community and partnership functions to support Cubico’s growth. The broad role will set the policies, procedures and strategic direction of these elements for up to 15 projects across the portfolio of projects in the east coast of Australia, chiefly focusing on wind developments, as well as solar, BESS and other renewable energy technologies. As an end to end focused infrastructure company this will include project in feasibility, development, preconstruction, construction, operation and decommissioning.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE

The successful candidate will need to possess a proven track record of delivering social performance outcomes for renewable energy projects successfully:

KNOWLEDGE

  • Bachelor’s degree and Master’s or certification preferred.
  • A good understanding of energy industry, with a particular focus on renewable energy, including community engagement strategy and planning, social performance, stakeholder engagement and management, community benefit and strategic planning
  • Experience of the renewable energy project development process from inception to operation of a project, including: site selection; understanding of the site constraints; community and landowner engagement; permitting; and network connection activities.

EXPERIENCE

  • 2-3 years’ experience in leadership of a team, including motivating, developing and directing the group towards assigned objectives
  • 10 years’ professional experience in social performance of infrastructure projects, with a knowledge of the infrastructure approvals process in Australia (primarily Qld, NSW and Vic)
  • Proven track record of delivering outcomes successfully.
  • Strong network of industry contacts from which to call upon to demonstrate positive outcomes in regional Australia, and as to keep up to date with best practice.
  • Willingness to travel as required.

Responsibilities:

  • Working with the Country Head and Head of Development, provide leadership and direction on all matters relating to Social Performance, Community and Partnerships.
  • Lead and manage a team of professionals, including Stakeholder, Community, Land and Communications experts.
  • Working within Cubico’s overall project delivery framework, implement robust and efficient processes, strategies and directions.
  • Manage and deliver quality programmes for all projects to ensure that budgets and timeframes are met and quality is optimised with a view to maximising long term project returns.
  • Be accountable for reporting, improvements and social outcomes.
  • Work closely with all teams to ensure best practise outcomes are in place and delivered.
  • Manage and maintain a diverse range of external and internal stakeholder relationships
  • Manage the role out of community engagement activities for projects in the development pipeline, in line with best practice and regulatory expectations through the Planning Act
  • Ensure portfolio consultation management systems, risk registers and Engagement Plans are maintained and proactively managed. Identify and manage project risks and solutions for coordination with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Keep up to date with market changes, including policy changes, and ensure the strategy and portfolio are reviewed accordingly.
