SOCIAL WORKER

(OCSWSSW Registered)
Permanent position, Full-time
The Sudbury Catholic District School Board is located in Northeastern Ontario and serves approximately 6,000 students in 17 schools located in Greater Sudbury, as well as in Killarney.
Our School Board is host to and celebrates diverse cultures and is comprised of dedicated staff committed to high quality education that inspires and promotes lifelong learning. The Board is currently seeking a Registered Social Worker to join our dynamic team.
Under the supervision of the Manager of Mental Health and Addictions Services and in collaboration with the Board mental health team and school-based team, the Social Worker will provide evidence-informed and identity-affirming promotion, prevention, early intervention (individual and group) and crisis response services to elementary and/or secondary students as assigned. In collaboration with the student, parent/guardian and school team, the Social Worker will complete mental health triage/assessment, treatment planning, brief, evidence-based, therapeutic intervention, and referral/bridging support to, from and through more intensive community services. Additionally, the Social Worker will be called upon to prepare and deliver mental health teaching and coaching for school staff and parents.
Essential Qualifications

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

Successful completion of a master’s degree in social work from a recognized university is required.
Successful completion of a bachelor’s degree in social work from a recognized university will be considered with agreement that the successful candidate will obtain an MSW within 5 years of start date.
Other equivalent educational backgrounds may be considered.
Candidates must be a Registered member in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:

Excellent knowledge of available community agencies and resources
Strong working knowledge of the Personal Health Information Protection Act
Strong knowledge of the Ontario Child and Family Services Act
Knowledge and understanding of the School Mental Health Ontario strategy is a definite asset
Understand, and practice in accordance with federal, provincial, and local laws, statutes, and policies that relate to students and families, such as, child protection/child abuse, special education, attendance, education rights, and privacy

SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Excellent assessment, interviewing, and counselling skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to function effectively with administrators, staff, parents, students, outside agencies and others
Ability to develop and present training sessions
Excellent planning and organizational skills
Ability to work both independently and have experience working with a multi-disciplinary team
Proven ability to be sensitive to the needs of students with disabilities, and cultural differences
Ability to effectively communicate and relate to people tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times
Working knowledge of Special Education
Good computer skills, including word processing, communications software, Internet and e-mail
Excellent discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality
Ability to provide regular attendance
Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
Preferred Qualifications
One-year recent related work experience
Current certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, First Aid, and CPR are assets
Experience in applied behavioural analysis
Ability to read, write and speak French is an asset
The salary range for this position is $42.33 to $52.92 hourly and includes a comprehensive benefit package.
