Description:

Greenbelt, the UKs leading land management company has an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic Software and Support Engineer based at our office in Leeds.
This position is ideal for recent graduates looking to start a career in IT and gain industry experience by applying their skills to a broad range of technologies and situations. The successful candidate will be a motivated self-starter and excellent problem solver.
The successful candidate will join a small team focussed on delivering support and solutions to around 70 employees including desk-based administrative staff in the Glasgow and Leeds offices, as well as remote staff and contractors who continuously travel and work throughout the UK.
Reporting to the senior software engineer, the role will involve assisting with the transition of the company’s on-premises systems to cloud-hosted architecture and will include development work on the companys bespoke Site Information System.

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE MUST HAVE SKILLS/EXPERIENCE IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS:

  • A good understanding of SQL databases such as MySQL
  • Knowledge of modern software development methodologies such as Agile
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to understand and translate problems raised by non-technical users
  • The ability to analyse, develop, test and refine software solutions for complex problems
  • Understanding of object-oriented techniques and fundamental design principles & patterns
  • Strong proficiency with Git

WHILE NOT ESSENTIAL, SKILLS/EXPERIENCE IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS IS CONSIDERED HIGHLY DESIRABLE:

  • Knowledge of cloud based computing platforms such as AWS, GCP or Azure
  • Experience with modern JavaScript/TypeScript front end technologies
  • PHP or other backend web technologies
  • Knowledge of Google Workspace
  • Some interest in computer hardware and networking
  • An understanding of platform as a service(PaaS) products like Docker
  • Full driving licence

Responsibilities:

  • Help write and develop code for the companys transition to cloud-hosted architecture
  • Analyse and suggest improvements that could be made to current practices
  • Writing database queries in response to data requests
  • Help write and maintain comprehensive technical documentation and user guides to assist users through the transition process to the cloud
  • React to and process alarms/monitoring alerts
  • Diagnose/triage and fix any issues with the software platform as they arise
  • Track issues raised in our IT helpdesk
  • Produce reports as required by members of the management team
  • Update and manage the company website
  • The role will require occasional travel to the companys head office in Glasgow
