As a Software Development Engineer IV on the Product Development, Marketing & Sales Team (PDMS), you will focus on highly complex enterprise solutions that create compelling solutions for our customers. In the role, you will analyze, design, code, test, maintain, debug, and modify software, applications, packaged applications, and systems for local, networked, web, mobile or cloud-based technologies within a collaborative agile team environment, and will develop solutions to complex or abstract problems that require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity.
This will be a virtual/telecommuter position, working from home.

What you’ll do:

  • Consult with business partners and IT leaders to identify and understand multi-faceted problems or improvement opportunities and recommend software and system solutions. Apply a system-wide, architectural view of solutions.
  • Analyze high risk business needs to determine solutions. Design systems, solutions, and applications that address business problems in the most efficient manner. Consider cost elements in design. Apply full range of design techniques including modeling, simulation, proof of concept, prototype, and reference implementation. Design solutions that consider cross system integration and dependencies.
  • Construct and modify code and system set-up based on program specifications using multiple programming languages or system platforms. Apply CICD (Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment). Constantly improve systems, processes, and effectiveness of solutions. Provide technical leadership to other staff members.
  • Perform testing using unit testing and test automation, and document test results. Participate in testing associated with cross-functional project team efforts.
  • Produce appropriate technical or architectural documentation and notifications for changes to production systems or fixes to production problems. Create SDLC (Software Development Lifecycle) artifacts.
  • Analyze high risk production problems, assess alternatives, and implement long-term solutions. Includes performance tuning, technical troubleshooting, debugging, call-rotation, and root cause analysis.
  • Support project initiatives collaborating with the rest of the design team and stakeholders ensuring that development milestones and deadlines are met. Provide feedback on peer designs in an open and collaborative environment. Provide mentoring to less experienced staff. Act as a technical and business leader sharing knowledge and expertise with others inside team as well as with other stakeholders. Proactively contribute to knowledge sharing across Premera developer community.
  • Assist in the development of IT standards and influence application of best practices in IT standards and procedures. Influence team strategy and contribute significantly to team planning. Drive application of engineering best practices for your team.
  • Stay current in best practices, technology trends, and the organization’s business while mentoring and sharing knowledge gained with others. Maintain expertise in one or more technical areas. Provide advice and mentoring to other engineers.

What you’ll bring:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Information Systems and (8) years of software development experience. At a minimum, must possess education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree plus eight (8) years of relevant experience, knowledge of software development lifecycle, and skills to utilize one or more programming languages. (Required)
  • Experience in the healthcare industry or a highly regulated environment preferred.
  • Experience with cloud solutions like Azure.
  • Experience with Biztalk and/or Siebel.
  • Technical knowledge and experience with specific technical tools used at Premera (i.e., Facets).
  • Previous experience in an agile environment.
  • Knowledge of API and service-based technologies.
  • Experience using and creating automated test tools.
  • Experience in deployment automation and orchestration.
  • Experience in working with Containerization concepts.
  • Experience in building and managing services with security protocols as per industry standards.
  • Demonstrated expertise in development of systems, applications, and tools that solve business problems and improve effectiveness of business solutions.
  • Deep technical knowledge in at least one area/technology and demonstrated deep hands-on expertise in multiple disparate technologies. Demonstrated ability to think in terms of architecture. Demonstrated experience building multiple, high performance, stable and scalable solutions that have been deployed in an enterprise setting.
  • Ability to continually evolve technical knowledge and skills. Experience providing advice and mentoring to less experienced staff.
  • Experience playing a leading role in implementation and deployment of successful enterprise-level systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and good presentation skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.

The pay for this role will vary based on a range of factors including, but not limited to, a candidate’s geographic location, market conditions, and specific skills and experience.
National Salary Range:
$102,600.00 - $174,400.00
National Plus Salary Range:

$117,000.00 - $198,900.00

  • National Plus salary range is used in higher cost of labor markets including Western Washington and Alaska.
