KNOWLEDGE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Essential:
A1 Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 8 (Scottish Vocational Qualification level 4, Higher National Diploma) or equivalent, and experience of personal development in a similar role.
A2 Practical knowledge of modern software engineering practices particularly in the areas of change management, quality assurance, continuous integration and software process improvement.
Desirable:
B1 Knowledge of Agresso, Central Room Bookings/CMIS, My Campus
B2 Knowledge of process design and improvement
B3 A first degree in a Computing Science or a cognate discipline, or equivalent

Responsibilities:
JOB PURPOSE
The Glasgow University Software Service (GUSS) is a facility within the School of Computing Science that provides software development capability for customers across the University and real world software development experience to students working within the GUSS as software development interns.
The Service Assistant Manager will be responsible for supporting the Service Software Engineering Manager in (a) supervising the conduct of on-going software development efforts undertaken within the service and mediating the interaction between student developers and their customers (b) actively seeking out and establishing new software projects through advertising and engagement with business units and other initiatives across the University.
The Service Assistant Manager will report and be responsible to (a) the Service Software Engineering Manager and (b) the Academic Lead for the GUSS within the School of Computing Science.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Promoting the existence of the GUSS for potential customers through advertising via University communication channels and other media, as well as maintaining the GUSS web and social media presence, as appropriate.
- Support the academic lead in developing the GUSS remit for engaging in external work, including working with the contracts team to develop suitable contracts.
- Engagement with other stakeholder groups who can facilitate the identification of new project opportunities, such as University business development managers, Research and Innovation Services, tech meetups and the Hacky Hour and Compumatch initiatives.
- Support the manager organisation and coordination of initial meetings with potential customers to scope outline requirements for software projects.
- Provision of software development quotes to potential customers both within and external to the University.
- Support the manager in advertising of roles and recruitment of students to undertake software development work as interns within the GUSS.
