GENERAL SUMMARY:
Software Engineer 2 are responsible for the building and/or configuration of software solutions within their business portfolio with little to no oversight and exhibit a mastery of C#/.NET and the application and technical skillset subject matter expertise for their area of responsibility. They ensure software is delivered to high quality standards by collaborating with their agile team members and by leveraging unit testing and continuous integration. They are able to accurately estimate work required to deliver software features. They use critical thinking skills applied to solution design and implementation for the delivery of business value. The Software Engineer 2 role may mentor Software Engineers and Associate Software Engineers.
JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY:
Unum is hiring! We are looking for a Software Engineer II who will be responsible for building and configuring software solutions within our business portfolio. This role requires a strong mastery of C#/.NET and subject matter expertise in the relevant application and technical areas, including experience in maintaining and building APIs. You will work with minimal oversight, ensuring that software is delivered to the highest quality standards by collaborating with agile team members, leveraging unit testing, and using continuous integration. Additionally, you’ll be responsible for accurately estimating the work required to deliver software features and applying critical thinking to solution design and implementation to deliver business value. As a Software Engineer II, you may also mentor and guide Software Engineers and Associate Software Engineers.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the estimation, design, implementation, and maintenance of new and existing features using C#/.NET for the application portfolio in a business area.
- Collaborates with key stakeholders, Business Analysts, and UX designers to ensure feature delivery aligns with business requirements and user experience expectations.
- Designs, codes, configures, unit tests, and documents software deliverables using C#/.NET, adhering to agreed-upon standards and tools.
- Leads and participates in sizing, estimation, code reviews, and sprint retrospectives to drive continuous improvement and ensure team alignment.
- Ensures the quality of existing and new features through manual and automated testing, leveraging continuous integration techniques.
- Engages with the agile team and Scrum Master/Team Lead in daily standups, providing updates on progress and identifying any impediments.
- Leads proof of concept work, prototyping, and collaborates with Test Engineers to validate that software meets the definition of done and quality standards.
- Ensures the successful transition of software features to the production environment, meeting performance criteria and release standards.
- Automates testing to industry standards, ensuring high-quality application delivery and efficient regression testing of existing features.
- Continuously seeks to improve customer experience by designing solutions that align with Company architecture and enhance end-user satisfaction.

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.
$73,300.00-$143,300.00
Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not.
