Description:
We’re seeking a Software Engineer (PHP focus) with a passion for problem solving to join our Matrix CMS team on a permanent basis, supporting the Matrix CMS product and its underlying infrastructure. This role will have a strong focus on supporting, maintaining and stabilising the product, particularly within the application infrastructure and deployment space.
You’ll be working alongside other developers who’ve been part of making Matrix what it is today, and helping to improve our Matrix product. You will also work collaboratively with some great engineers in other areas such as Cloud Engineering and our DXP teams to make sure our product continues to perform and scale well and meet the needs of our customers as they evolve.
We’re location-flexible! This role is open to all candidates on the east coast of Australia.
What will I do?
- Create, maintain, and improve code in the Matrix CMS, infrastructure, and supporting tooling
- Develop a deep understanding of the Matrix CMS codebase and architecture
- Work across both our dedicated Squiz Cloud and AWS SaaS hosting environments
- Use data driven decision making to help prioritise refactoring tasks and bug fixes
- Release changes to production and monitor their impact on the customer base
- Support internal developers by diagnosing and resolving issues with customer projects
- Improve the performance and hosting cost of the CMS when running in our AWS SaaS environment
- Design and run performance and load tests to diagnose bottlenecks and measure the success of changes
- Lead large development projects and mentor junior and mid level developers
What do I need?
- 3+ years of professional hands-on experience in software development building and maintaining large-scale software products
- A drive to understand how an application works, and to experiment and dive deep to enhance that understanding
- The ability to debug issues in a complex and unfamiliar codebase
- Commercial experience building and maintaining PHP applications (including exposure to Symfony or similar)
- Extensive experience working with relational databases (ideally PostgreSQL)
- Experience with AWS, particularly with creating and maintaining applications using myriad services such EC2, EFS, S3 and RDS
- Experience configuring best practice CI/CD and IaC with a focus on application security, stability and performance
WHO WE ARE:
Squiz helps complex, service-led organisations harness the power of digital, improving the services they offer online.
Founded in 1998, Squiz grew during the rise of the internet. Since then, we have evolved from a simple web content management system into a full digital experience platform (DXP), helping customers make the shift from being content managers to experience creators.
The Squiz DXP brings together content, search, data and applications in one place. To get the most out of the platform, customers can collaborate with our digital experts to design solutions and adapt as demands change.
We are headquartered in Australia, with teams and customers across the globe, and offices in New Zealand, the United States, the United Kingdom and Poland.
Come as you are - We celebrate diversity and unite on the elements of our company DNA, starting every customer conversation with “why?” to really understand their needs, working hard to find a way to overcome every challenge, and fighting for better outcomes with the work we do. We also check our egos at the door, we don’t take ourselves too seriously and we have fun along the way.
