We have a current opportunity for a Solar Array Design Engineer to join our team in Goleta, CA. In this role you will report to the Design Engineering Group Manager and be part of a project team working on various tasks, including electrical and mechanical design.

IDEAL EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, Aerospace Engineering or other related degree with 8 or more years of relevant experience
  • Experience working with design, manufacture and verification of electromechanical systems, photovoltaics, and composite structures.
  • Experienced with SolidWorks PDM or CAD
  • Experienced with GD&T per ASME Y14.5 along with tolerance analysis capabilities.
  • Ability to travel - an average of 10-15% travel may be required. Most of the travel is local but some overnight travel may be required.
  • US Citizenship Required, with the ability to obtain a DOD security clearance.

DESIRED SKILLS

  • 10 or more years’ experience in space industry, including developing, building, and testing space flight hardware, ideally deployable solar arrays.
  • Self-motivated in applying engineering principles, concepts, and practices of mechanical / aerospace engineering to independently perform assignments.
  • Experience with space mechanism design and aerospace guidelines such as GSFC-STD-7000A (GEVS), AIAA S-114-2005, NASA-STD-5017, MMPDS, etc.
  • Experience with Thermal Desktop, NASTRAN or ANSYS is a plus.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office 365
  • Strong attention to detail with advanced verbal and written communication skills

Pay Range
$122,000 - $183,000

Responsibilities:

  • Perform sizing and power analysis for PV deployable solar arrays.
  • Design, layout and model electrical schematics, harnessing and circuit boards for space deployables.
  • Develop and execute qualification campaigns for PV and electrical components including mechanical, thermal and radiation testing.
  • Work closely with manufacturing engineering to develop and validate electrical interconnect processes such as welding and soldering.
  • Collaborate with systems engineering on electrical de-rating and EEE parts lists.
  • Proactively interface with multi-disciplinary team members to optimize component and system designs that meet all technical, cost and schedule requirements
  • Create 3D solid models using SolidWorks CAD software in support of new and existing space flight programs.
  • Apply engineering principles to ensure that designed components and systems meet all requirements.
  • Create, maintain, and release component, assembly, and layout drawings compliant with ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards. Utilize SolidWorks PDM system to maintain configuration control
  • Utilize hardware-based techniques to perform research and development, iterate on design concepts, correlate engineering models, and develop manufacturing processes and procedures.
  • Generate technical documentation, reporting and presentations of design, test, and analysis results.
