Description:

FULL TIME|MACKAY

We are a well-established, medium-sized firm based in Mackay, with an office in Moranbah. Our experienced team practises across all areas of law, and we are proud of our long-standing reputation in the community.
Mackay is the services hub for the Bowen Basin mining industry, a thriving agricultural centre, and the gateway to the Whitsundays. Our firm, with over 20 professional and 20 support staff, has been serving this dynamic region for over 50 years. We work with a diverse range of clients locally, nationally, and interstate.

Responsibilities:

We are looking for a solicitor to join our busy Commercial Litigation team. The team includes a Partner (an Accredited Specialist in Commercial Litigation), an Associate, a Graduate Lawyer, and a dedicated group of legal secretaries and paralegals.

This role offers the chance to work on a wide variety of commercial litigation and criminal law matters, including:

  • Planning & Environment/Land Court matters
  • Mining Services Disputes
  • Bankruptcy and Insolvency
  • Business/Partnership Disputes
  • Consumer Law
  • General litigation in all State and Federal Courts
  • Traffic matters
  • Criminal law

You will have the opportunity to work closely with experienced barristers and engage in your own court advocacy. The criminal law work is all for privately funded clients.
Your expected workload would be approximately 30% - 40% criminal law with the balance being a variety of commercial litigation matters.
While the ideal candidate will have experience in both commercial litigation and criminal law, applicants who have experience in either practice area are encouraged to apply if you have an interest in and willingness to learn the other practice area.
We support continuous professional development, offering CPD opportunities and further study support. We also encourage and fund involvement in professional organisations.
